The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@beachymom do you have any idea if that was also how design/production decisions were issued?

@azmtmom13 I agree. Auditioning hundreds of students must be exhausting. Our experience occurred while touring and visiting the MT department. We feel fortunate that our D saw right then that this school was not a “fit” for her. Others have had very positive experiences there. Although it was a negative experience to the start of her college search, we have moved on and know that our D will find the perfect place for her.

My kid is a senior so I feel way out of the loop on notifications. His year (2015) CMU’s notice of acceptance was by phone call the same day his portal changed.

Regarding rude treatment from some schools at auditions: We can make the excuse of how tiring it is but I’m sure teaching is tiring too so it makes me wonder how they treat their students. Myself, I wouldn’t take the chance. My daughter is finishing her freshman year right now and has always been treated with respect, no matter how stressful things get.

@mommaofdrama Agreed. What’s amazing is that MOST of these programs, including top tier, are going through the same long days, etc… and still manage to make the auditionees feel welcome, listened to, and even allow them to have fun. There’s no excuse. My D appreciates a more strict, structured Director/Teacher, etc… she’s a tough cookie. But rude is a whole other thing.

@cabbiegirl what school was this?

@elenadel - I’m clueless about how D&Ps were contacted - so sorry!!!

Does anyone know if CMU Acting calls also went out yesterday? Or is there a separate thread? I can’t find in! Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about the BFA Acting program at SUNY Fredonia? S passed MT prescreen and auditioned last weekend, but he received a letter for acceptance and scholarship into the acting program instead. Are singing and dance integrated into this program as well? He loves Fredonia and the price tag is unbeatable, but without the MT training I’m not sure it would be a good fit for him.

@jacksmaxs I would have your son email the department and ask about opportunity, including re-auditioning from Acting into MT during freshman year. I could not convince my S to do this last year (MT audition/Acting offer and we are NY residents!). My feeling during the Q & A was that SUNY Fredonia is open to the idea of kids re-auditioning into the BFA programs. At the time, I didn’t think to ask if this applied to Acting into MT. Did you see the campus?

I saw some earlier posts about JMU, but I think they said they were for Early Decision applicants only. Does anyone know when we can expect to hear for Regular Decision?

@marchells01 – RD decisions for JMU will be available in your portal at the same time as your academic admissions decision, historically mid-March.

The head of JMU’s program has been very responsive to inquiries on the thread for that program. She says Regular Decision notices will be going “mid-March,” which I guess means as soon as next week. JMU-MT program admission decisions become available when academic admission decision are posted.

@marchells01 – word on the street is start looking for JMU RD updates to MyMadison on or about March 13.

current Fredonia MT student here! you are definitely able to advocate for yourself and take dance classes and voice lessons as an acting major. it will be more difficult because the spots will go to MT students first, but possible. I can answer any more questions if you have them!

CMU has posted results through acceptd. D is a no :frowning:

@beachymom no worries! Thanks!

Accptd message from CMU, sadly a no. For those keeping track, we went for a visit/official tour, then again for on campus audition, did same material as prescreen, was sent to second room to sing again, was asked to do monologue again in an opposite way as originally done for contrast. The letter is a very nice letter which says what we all know, too much talent not enough spots. It does say official results come in late March. We did everything that could be done, had great audition, but alas was not in the cards. Have Sophomore friend there, BFA MT and she did get a personal phone call for her acceptance. Good luck to everyone!

@“collegehelp!” We got the same email. Sad, but I agree with you 100% - Beautifully stated.
