@frisbee3 @“boola boola” we did receive a rejection letter. Don’t remember the date, but it was very quickly after the calls went out. That said, D had already decided based on the audition, that she had zero interest in going there.
@frisbee3 no word from FSU here. My son is really upset about this rejection and waiting for the letter is torture.
@mtmom1967 My S will be at Missouri State auditions at NYC tomorrow. Hope to see you. Look for a “dad” (we are a rare breed in this MT world) with a tall son.
@KBreedlove It was fine for my D. She did not get regular updates but did know in April that the class was full. Coincidentally, my S graduated from BW in 2018. At least one (maybe two?) of his classmates got in from the WL and knew in April.
@collegeboundSam I will look for you!
To the parent who posted about her D choosing LMU BA over BFA program can you message me? I can’t find your original post.
@theater9969 My son had the exact same reaction. No interest coming out of the audition.
My child visited FSU and after touring, decided to not even apply to the MT program. My husband was appalled that any school would treat a prospective student that way.
@Boilermom CMU acceptances are always via telephone call.
@MTVTmom if you have any questions regarding Wagner PM me. My D is a sophomore Theatre Performance major there. She is always happy to chat about the program.
@LBSMOM - last year, things were a bit different for CMU notifications. They actually all heard via Acceptd on 3/12, and then the kids given a yes were called later that day.
Sounds like this year might be emails plus phone calls.
@cabbiegirl Wow! what happened? My D thought they accompanist played her songs too fast and argued about the tempo. It left her feeling not thrilled after the audition, but your stories sound much worse! Wish I would have known some of the intangible “attitude” stuff before we paid to fly to Florida.
@beachymom - my D is class of 2021, so I’m a bit out of the loop
Her year it was phone calls - the reject came via email. It seems quite a bit has changed over the last 2 years!
@beachymom did your D’s rejection email come at same time as CMU’s regular decision date or was it earlier?
@LBSMOM - agreed! I had told people how it was handled last year, and it is different this go-round. Oops! I was just there for Playground, it was awesome!
@FamLawTX - my kid is class of 2022, and it seems things are different this year. So I’m not sure that my info would be relevant or helpful, sorry! Last year, my kid recieved his acceptance via Acceptd, then got a follow up phone call later that day.
@FamLawTX - @beachymom’s son was admitted to CMU, not rejected last year. My D was rejected
and the decision came via the portal, earlier than regular decisions!
@azmtmom13 Given an attitude that anyone should consider themselves lucky to even be considered for their program, very irritated that they had to answer questions, questions were mocked, etc. It’s too bad as we know that it is a really good program but unfortunately, did not leave a good impression.
A really good singer cut off six bars into his second song, before even getting close to the “belt.” Then basically ushered out of the room without so much as a thank you. Of 26 auditions, it was the only one that my son came out of saying, “I will never go there.” It was the antithesis of the CMU, where every kid I’ve ever heard of walks out feeling good about themselves.
@azmtmom13 I heard those that received the yes are not allowed to announce until they receive their academic acceptances. My received a no last night from BW. We are waiting on 4 more!
@cabbiegirl @“boola boola” So sorry to hear of these experiences! I know the professors doing the auditions have a lot of kids to get through and they are tired, etc. I think some of them forget they are dealing with mainly 17-18 year olds. It’s unfortunate. I work in higher ed, and I admit, I used to have the attitude of “they’re adults”. As my own kids have approached college age and as I’ve matured and learned more about how the teenage/young adult brain develops, I’ve learned to change my approach. I was watching for this in the auditions and in subsequent interactions. We have tons of research that shows relationships with faculty is a large factor in college success. So, I guess the glass half full approach is that it is really good to figure out where you click before you end up in a program! I just wish it didn’t take a plane ticket across the country to figure that out
