This may be an odd question–are there post-audition coaches to help you sort out options? I had NO IDEA about coaches before we started this process. Now D is looking at a few acceptances, but doesn’t really know how to weigh the pros and cons. She’s developed her own spreadsheet, but it would be great to talk to an industry professional. We live in a small town and her teachers aren’t exactly cutting edge. Any advice on where we can get a frank assessment of programs?
@azmtmom13 - that is a totally sensible question. I don’t know the other coaches but MTCA has an initial consult that is done via Skype and you meet with one of their directors and you chat about what you want in a school. Usually that results in a list of colleges to consider - but I am sure they could offer valuable advice for you if given the list of programs your D is admitted to.
@CaMom13 Thanks, I’ll reach out to them. Any other suggestions?
@azmtmom13 I know Chelsea Diehl from MCA does this but I don’t know if that is just for current students. Worth emailing and asking! She also does pre-audition assessments like MTCA so I suspect it would be similar!
@azmtmom13 there are several audition coaching services and from what I have read they ALL know their stuff! I can only speak to MTCA because it’s who we used. If any one of them have time right now between counseling their current students I am sure they could really help you understand your options.
@azmtmom13 Call Chelsea at MCA. She’s great. And she’ll work with you on a smaller time minimum than many other coaches will. And yes, she does post audition consulting. But she’d probably want to do an assessment session first.
@azmtmom13 MTCA actually has someone who does college advising. If you go to their website, then in the upper right corner click on MTCA store then on the next page hover over supplementals and you’ll see an option for college advising. And ignore the price that shows up when you 1st click on college advising it might scare you, but the price will get a lot lower when you choose one of the options and add it to the bag. (won’t change unless added to bag)
My son got the “no” from BW today as well
Could not have survived this process without MTCA. Honestly, those coaches go above and beyond, and the parents I’ve met through that group are amazing because they have realistic expectations of what they are going to encounter at each step of the process. I’m sure others are similar. So glad we chose coaches over summer program.
@azmtmom13 Polish Your Passion is a smaller consulting firm based in NYC that we have used and been very happy with! They also work via Skype and did the initial assessment like the larger firms. Definitely worth considering! Look at their website and social media.
@beachymom - I would add Syracuse also to the list where academics matter. At last year’s accepted student gig, Ralph Zito explained that after the drama department makes its decisions and create a list of students they want to accept, the list goes to admissions, who select students to accept from that list based on academics. I assume there is a separate boy and girl list (to promote gender balance), but I don’t know for sure.
Sorry @pegski ! I know this was a stressful season for you and you started a little late in finding a broad list. Hoping for good news soon!
@larken19 - so hoping for good news! I feel for you and I just send so many positive vibes!!!
@32barMom Missouri State is recruiting incredibly with Westenberg on staff. Amazing for BFA MT, Acting & Dance. Price & Brescia also favorite faculty. Brescia still at DEH Broadway. But will return to MSU after contract complete. Equity earning theater on campus opportunities. Lot of opportunity to be in Performances as well. MSU’s tuition is a parent’s dream. They recruit nationally. And grant in-state tuition & scholarships. Lots of crossover between performance opportunities too among various BFAs. LA & NYC showcase.
@yellowheart, @azmtmom13 agree… Polish Your Passion NYC is amazing. Lots of quality attention from founders. Highly recommend if want a hands on approach for MT or Acting BFA consulting. They give lots of personal attention. You aren’t just a number in a sea of clients. Founder Tom Morin is amazing at helping analyze colleges for best fit. He often writes for the industry on Backstage as well. He’s just the kindest soul. And Co-Founder Caroline Selia is incredible & so talented too.
@Larkin19 With all those decisions still unmade, I’ve got a feeling she’s going to get a “yes.” Sending you good vibes. Hang in there!
Has anyone that didn’t get the FSU call receive the letter in the mail yet? Also will CCU be emailing or mailing letters with WL and nos?
@Kkrazie My D has an audition with Missouri tomorrow! She auditioned at Combines in NYC for them and they ask ed her to apply and audition on campus at NYC audition. Last audition!
@frisbee3 Regarding FSU, not a thing. But given the attitude displayed at the audition it doesn’t surprise me in the least. Imagine, for those 200 or so auditionees who are not on CC, they have no idea that decisions have been made and they have been rejected. They are STILL waiting for news. Just another example of the arrogance of a few of these programs. It’s just not that hard to send out an email.
