BW is a no. We were expecting that so no let down today. Five down five to go.
@32barMom that is MT. The other degree is Voice Performance. My D auditioned for both.
@klrbee16 You were fine. No worries!
Honestly these are the days when my Mom heart breaks a little! Tomorrow we will be fine!
Just curious…where are all the BW Yes’s? I have seen waitlists and no’s. Want some good news! BTW, congrats on the waitlists @klrbee16 @32barMom and anyone else! I probably forgot to mention it while I was grieving for my D! Sorry!
OMG- just saw read about the stats of W/L kids for BW!! 111 last year and 7 or 8 got taken from the list. Although they said they keep revisiting the list and whittling it down, that big number just shocked me so much!
@afterp89 yes my friend checked spam and nothing. I guess she will call tomorrow :-/
I know 1 girl that has already accepted from the first audition at BW
@rgpolzin Was she accepted to BW today or earlier in the audition season?
WAGNER COLLEGE update - D got a call from Theresa McCarthy tonight at 7:15 PM she has been accepted into the performance concentration! Admissions sending the packet in the mail soon.
@BrennaK I think she was at the first audition and found out maybe a week or so later… Actually canceled many of her auditions because that was her dream school
@KBreedlove the waitlist number is for the whole conservatory. Less for BM-MT. My D was on the waitlist last year and did not get in.
@artskids thank you for the info and clarification about the BW waitlist. Sorry that it didn’t work out for your D last year too
Did they make regular updates along the way from the initial offers? My big question was did your D get a final “no” from them before the MAY 1 deadline? TIA
@MTVTmom CONGRATULATIONS!!! So excited for you guys! Fingers crossed my D will get a call too. I believe they are mailing out Waitlist and Rejections tomorrow.
@MTVTmom My S got Wagner yes call too! He has other options but we were super impressed with the school!
Congrations to all who got news today!
@MTmama42 thank you and fingers crossed for your D. My D (and us) are grateful for the options she has, a few surprise re-directs, but wonderful explanations of why from the schools. Waiting on 6 more schools and then see about squeezing in visits to her top 2-3 and make a decision. Just when you think one hurdle is done, there are about 10 more you have to get through. Will be so happy to find “the one” after this process for her!
S’s Carnegie portal was updated to reflect admissions decision would be released March 30th, did all applicants receive this notification on their Carnegie portal? Also any new information out regarding status of calls?
@beachymom What an awesome list you put together. I think those in future years will appreciate the focus part of the list (music, acting, dance). For us, we naively targeted big names with no honest assessment of our strengths and weaknesses. Applying to many schools that we would later learn were more focused on her weakness or required you to already be a triple threat before college, led to early prescreen rejections and made us have to pause and take stock. We had to look at what our D was good at and what was shall we say “gapped”. You do the same thing in marketing, promote your strengths to those that want your strengths. Then we started applying to schools with a more “focused” approached and it paid off. My advice to those in the future who are not triple threats (yet) or you are stronger in one area, would be to take a look at @beachymom’s focus list as it may increase your odds (slightly, although I agree there is little logic to it all). Just my opinion, but I am still very new to this.
Posted in the wrong thread, sorry if a duplicate.
Congrats to all on today’s happy news! To those who are discouraged or still waiting, I am with you. My D passed all of her prescreens, including all the biggies, and auditioned at 17 schools. She was healthy, prepared, and felt great after each audition… and she got a lot of specific and very encouraging feedback. But we’ve yet to hear a yes, redirect or even a waitlist from anywhere other than her one “safety” acceptance. The silence from some schools is deafening and she (and we) are starting to panic. A gap year isn’t an option for her because she’s ready for college and just doesn’t want to go through this again. So, we are holding out hope but starting to talk about adjusting the dream. Thank you all for being a community of support and fingers crossed for the remaining schools we - and everyone - has left!!
I tried to prepare my daughter tonight for the no or waitlist that she is probably going to get from her favorite school … thinking it’s best to prepare her rather than her open the email at school and be upset… Her response wasn’t that she was upset about not getting in the school but that when she went to the audition she missed a fundraiser at her school that raised $26,000 for pediatric cancer… These kids are more than just a couple of auditions… I know she’ll be fine wherever or whatever she does
So has no one received a yes from BW as of now?? you would think at least 1 person would have
Yes @BeBop1 totally agree that yes you can def switch into another major , albeit arts/theatre/music oriented, at a conservatory based or totally arts based school such as U Arts. My D actually was accepted to U Arts in 2017 and considered the school as she loves Philly. that being said it just happened to work out for us that she was interested in switching to a non arts related major but luckily the major can be used in an arts position and coupled with the theatre minor and non profit minor it all melds well. But yes lots of options at those schools also that the students probably don’t know are even there till they get on campus.
Plus the upside is when/if my D does want to delve into auditions again and if she ends up wanting to try auditioning in NYC etc upon graduation (which is not out of the realm of possibility) she will have a small advantage as she is already EMC. Not that that means it is that much easier but is helpful nonetheless. At the end of the day we all know it is really about what you present in the room and not about the degree on your resume.
