The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@carriemc95 D emailed Ball State and they said you will receive a confirmation email 2-4 weeks before your selected audition date. So much for planning ahead!

One thing on the ball state unifieds audition - If I remember correctly, you have your song/mono time which is a short block and then the dance call is late afternoon/early evening so they don’t take up a bunch of time when you might be wanting to schedule other auditions as well. Seemed like most auditions were done by 5. (At least the schools we had)

@mindatwork I would follow up with a person to see if they received them.

@ac2680 Thanks for the information. Ugh - I just need it all to be planned out! lol

So if your child doesn’t pass a prescreen, can you withdraw their university application so that you stop getting emails from the school about missing items?

@MToverload not sure but you should be able to “unsubscribe” from the emails.

@afterp89 Thank you!! I hadn’t even thought about that. I will tell my D to do so then. I also told her to send an email to admissions asking to withdraw her application, so hopefully those 2 things will work. Thanks.

@MToverload - Yes, you can do both! Sometimes people STILL end up getting emails (Pace is famous for this), but hopefully it will do the trick.

Our D has a phone interview tonight with LIU Post! We are very anxious over here!

@ohiomtgirl22 How exciting! Did she have an audition already? BAL tonight!!

@MToverload she sent in an Acceptd profile because we weren’t sure if we would be able to afford to send her to more than a few auditions! This is her first real audition though! We have Kent State in person also coming up soon.

My daughter passed her first prescreen! Woo hoo! It’s the only one she’s actually submitted because they had a 10/15 deadline, but it was nice to get that initial “yes.” Now if we can just get the big ones filmed! Sigh…

Side note - my D went up to NYC this weekend for the MTCA mock audition workshop. She met up with her close friend that graduated last year and is in her freshman year at Julliard to watch a junior drama performance. She called me afterwards having a fan-girl moment. Tony Kushner (Angels in America playwright) was in the audience.

Hi, going to chime in here and hope im helpful. My son applied to 28 schools to date. That is unreal and a whole lot of money so far. But, pre-screens were done in July at PSU State summer intensive. So we applied early in late August and early September. Got most of audition dates scheduled as first choice. Very helpful to have that choice. I recommend it for anyone doing this next year. Denied from Ithaca , Elon, Shenandoah, CMU and Emerson. But passed pre-screening for Penn State, coastalCarolina, Syracuse, Pace, Indiana, Fredonia. Also, scheduled PPark, Cincinnati, Cortland, West Conn, Hartt, BW, Catholic, still waiting for Michigan, Texas state, Temple, OK, Rider, and Boco results.
We felt you can’t apply to enough schools, even though it’s a lot of money and time. The only way to get every audition in is to schedule and apply early. It seems so random, that some schools pass you and others don’t, but that’s the reality of it.

We scheduled the schools for Unifieds based on how far away the school is (did we need to fly versus drive). Furthest ones scheduled in first. Then we scheduled in the ones that we couldn’t fit in our schedule for their on campus auditions. Those two categories got scheduled at Chicago unifieds first. We live close to Chicago which made Unifieds so very handy, but CMU would have been a flight not a drive so it went into the unified schedule.

^^^I had no idea schools were doing phone interviews! @ohiomtgirl22 did that include any kind of audition?

First real big disappointment last night - D got a “no” from Shenandoah. We visited this summer and she loved the school and the program AND had been academically accepted.

@collegeboundsam, our sons were at STATE together and I really loved your son’s final performance. You are so right about the randomness of this process.

My son broke his finger at school last week and had surgery yesterday. He’ll be doing the first couple auditions and two other college interviews with a cast. I’m apprehensive about the dancing but he isn’t worried at all.

@collegeboundSam Thank you for sharing this list and your results. My daughter received four denials in a row and it is hard to keep the faith (We are re-taping before she sends out anymore). Your pass vs not pass totally demonstrates what her coaches say- there is no rhyme or reason to this process. Your son passed some hard ones so obviously he is super talented. It gives me hope.

When the rejections came in, we started looking at schools to add and started to talk about what kind of college experience she wanted instead of just focusing on the best MT schools. That helped us eliminate some schools and add others.

Have any or your kids filled out the Common App question: Do you wish to provide details of circumstances or qualifications not reflected in the application? If so, what type of info do they put down? Is this the place we tell them, hey, I’m not so good at math and science, but I’m great at everything else? Thanks in advance!

@afterp89 I am so sorry. I know the feeling. My daughter had her heart set on Penn State. Her dad is a graduate and we have gone there several times over the years. It still makes me so sad she did not pass the prescreen and won’t have the chance to audition there. Sending hugs and positive vibes to you and your daughter.
