The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@peacemama So far, my D has academic acceptances from Oklahoma City University, University of Arizona, Point Park University, University of Northern Colorado, and Texas State University. So at least those are ones I know of.

@peacemama My D has a pretty long list of academic acceptances. Applied to many right after applications opened in summer. So far, Brenau U, Butler, Emory & Henry, LIU Post, Nebraska Wesleyan, Oklahoma City U, Point Park, Shenandoah, Viterbo, West Virginia, Western Michigan and Wright State.

@afterp89 , my daughter and I were at MARCAS, and we did see your D and W. My D was in all red. She did very, very well. I need to get some sleep and time to comprehend everything that happened because it was overwhelmingly positive. I would definitely recommend this process to anyone considering attending next year. And we met a great CC mom and S and had lunch together. Lots of fun.

What is MARCAS and how can you participate?? This sounds like an amazing opportunity!

@peacemama we’ve heard academically from Point Park, SUNY Fredonia, Molloy, Florida Southern and DeSales

Does anyone know how many are auditioning on a given day at FSU? Or the amount of prescreens they approve?

@MTmama19 - FSU stats posted by Michelle in 2015. It is a wonderful program and OOS students receive a discount on tuition (every little bit helps). BAL.

Last year FSU had about 800 pre-screens and auditioned about 220 total over the auditions days.

@elledaspitzer MARCAS is the Mid Atlantic Regional College Auditions for theatre and dance. You can check out their website for more info

hi! I just finished an audition with my top school and I feel pretty good about it. not too confident that I would get in, but I might have a good chance. does it help to email the the department head after an audition thanking them for the experience? do you think that would leave a good impression?

@kwheel_2019 , if you’re going to go that route, a thank you note on paper that’s actually mailed makes a stronger impression than an email.

@actorparent1 I live across the country and decisions roll out in about a week or two. is that enough time? I really want to get into this school, but don’t want to risk a letter getting lost or not in on time. should I still mail one in?

I’d mail it. Mail usually only takes three days.

@afterp89 and @BWmama - So happy things went well! What a relief to have those first positive responses/acceptances in the bag! Congratulations!

@afterp89 @BWmama I also ditto comments about MARCAS auditions! Sorry we didn’t meet your wife & D afterp89…perhaps next time! Did your D have the opportunity to meet up with all 24 schools? S rec’d callbacks to many schools too, but ran out of time, and missed about 5 schools. (my one suggestion would be to have the schools actually stay for the allotted time …callbacks were from 2-5, but almost all the schools left by 4:15).
BWmama, it was so fun to meet & lunch w you and your D, and glad we were able to do so, but sorry we didn’t get a chance to catch up at the end! Looking forward to meeting up with you both again!

For those who want to know more about MARCAS, it truly is a hodgepodge of responses. S rec’d artistic acceptances from several schools, a couple of which he was already academically accepted to, and several others that they said would accept him (artistically) into their program, he just needed to apply to the school. (So, YAY! He has a couple of choices for school for BFA MT! The pressure is not nearly as high as it was). Financially, we found many schools that were interested in S to be forthcoming with information about scholarship $, and some were sending follow up info to us. Some wanted to see/hear more from S, and audition for scholarship $.
Overall, the experience was fantastic, and a great first college audition! And it was very validating for S to hear that colleges were interested in him, and that I’m not the only one who thinks he has some talent! LOL

Ditto what everyone else said about MARCAS. Very positive experience for my D. She was called back to 15-20 schools (she knows the number, but I don’t remember at this moment lol)., but chose to only meet/speak with 6 or 7. She did not receive any actual, definitive offers (congrats to those who got one/some!), but had some definite serious interest from a couple of schools (who remembered her name as she approached, which was nice for her). Also received the audition for scholarship request. It was a very nice, positive way to begin this hectic audition in person season for her, and she will be applying to 2 or 3 of the schools that she met with now, but she and I need to sit down and discuss that part further.

@MToverload Sorry, I didn’t meant to leave you out of the earlier post! I’m so glad it went well for your D as well!

@lithpool , It was a job meeting you and your S. Why am I so tired!!! Heading out for my twins’ activities today. Never any down time.

@lithpool Oh, no worries at all! I hadn’t posted yet about it, so I didn’t think anything of it. There are too many names to keep track of everyone, at least for me! lol

Just a bit of insight about EA applications and odds of being accepted. During the Q&A parent meeting at Emerson, I asked how many students were accepted EA. We were told 8 out of 25 slots were filled with EA applicants. So in this case it was a real advantage to apply EA. We do know students who were deferred from Emerson EA and then not given an offer in March.
