The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@lithpool Late to the board today… no, she didn’t meet with all 24. Some she knew she wasn’t interested in and others she knew were a priority. She talked to 10-12 total - getting feedback was good. Most said they would email more information. At least one got dropped from the list just from the recruiter who was dismissive about MT as opposed to Acting as a degree pursuit. Not that my D wouldn’t consider a strong Acting program, she was just turned off by them talking down on MT. Only negative feedback for the day was some schools gone before she had a chance to talk with them - some of the dance students who also auditioned for MT didn’t get to talk to anyone because the dance callback went late - but by then I guess everyone was pretty tired.

@BeBop1
Did Emerson tell you how many applicants did EA vs regular decision?

BW often fills a few of its slots (some years more than others) from early auditions. And I don’t agree that a “deferred” or “waitlist” isn’t good news - it means your student is still in the running! Those waitlists can convert to yesses. It’s true it is not the same as an early “yes” but still not bad news!

Hi! Has anyone been able to schedule the Boston Conservatory audition for Unifieds in Chicago through their admissions portal? When we go under her application status and check on her “invitations” and them click on the events/auditions she can register for, the only dates listed are Dec 1-2 on campus (EA applicants). Just wanted to know if we need to keep checking back for more dates to be listed or if anyone was actually able to schedule a Chicago Time slot. I am getting mixed answers from people at Boco. Thanks for any help!

@MTlizard We saw the same thing. We replied to the email that was sent (with the link to schedule) and asked about Unified dates and the response was that someone would be in touch shortly to schedule an audition. Someone called my D a couple days later and set up the time slot over the phone.

.

@MTlizard @BrennaK Did you both get your prescreen results from Boston? We are still waiting.

@MTMom2019 My D passed; heard on the 26th. I don’t think they notified all at once. My D sent in her prescreens super early (beginning of Sept). This is our 2nd year with auditions, after taking a forced gap year, which isn’t exactly much of gap, since the application & audition process starts in Aug/Sept.

@BrennaK Thanks for sharing and congratulations to her! That is really true about the gap year not being much of a gap/break at all:)

@MTMom2019 My D did pass the Boco presreeen. She submitted on Oct 11 and she got an email on Oct 26. After the invitation, she had to do an online recorded interview as well.

@MTMom2019. We are in the same boat as you. Submitted on Sept. 28 and are still waiting to hear.

So I am not sure if this has any real relevance or factual information but figured Id share my experience tonight at the NY NACAC ( Performing arts visual & performing arts college fair). There had to be over 100 schools there, not all MT but most of the MT programs where there plus many others for other arts and music programs. Granted this is mostly booths run by admissions officers but specializing in the various arts programs…Not just your general admission counselors, but also not your MT department decision makers by any stretch…Anyway the most common question we asked tonight was for Numbers/ data points…take these verbal numbers with a grain of salt and recognize who they are coming from BUT nearly all schools that do pre screens said they looked to eliminate 25-50% in the pre screen process…the most common numbers we heard were about 400-500 get to the live audition( obviously there are outliers and we heard 200 as well as 800 get live auditions at diff schools) CCM said they have never done pre screens but with 1500 applicants they might have no choice next year…anyway the main reason I share this is that I feel like if you do get through a pre screen that you are passed a significant hurdle and you should be proud of that (CONGRATS!! ) & though chances are still long, maybe they are slightly better that the sub 5% we often hear…anyway, like I said not any factual info-- maybe worthless info?? but when this college fair comes to a town near you, I certainly think it was 2 hours well spent… hope that is helpful to all of you.

Good morning everyone! Our thread seems quiet! How’s everyone doing? We are still anxiously awaiting for some prescreen results. I was thinking it’s been a long wait, but I checked our calendar and it hasn’t been nearly as long as it feels!

jealous. Ours have yet to be submitted hope that’s making someone feel better!!

Oh we’ve got that too! Prob won’t get in until close to Thanksgiving/Dec 1. This is all coming in waves eh?

@penny1234 @NYart15 WHEW! We are almost ready to submit prescreens. Glad to hear we are not the only ones who haven’t submitted yet! S does have some auditions scheduled, but I was under the impression we would have everything all set/scheduled by now…OOPS!

@lithpool
Yes! Same here. Prescreen are filmed. They just need to be edited
Some auditions scheduled. It’ll all get done!!
I’d rather be busy right now vs waiting come February. That’ll be the hard part.

@NYart15 , We’re right there with you. Final prescreen gets filmed next Tuesday.

@NYart15 @BWmama , We will film prescreens this weekend.
I feel we’re so late.
My D has already 5 auditions schedule from no prescreen schools.
She was waitlisted for the BW audition, apparently all the slots were full by the time they got her application.
Anybody had this situation before? Any chance of getting into an audition with BW if waitlisted?

@penny1234 I hear you about waiting to hear back. Some responses have been amazingly quick and some we are coming up on 2 weeks. I’m inclined to have my D check in, but don’t want her to seem pushy and impatient… I would hate to find out later that a request was missed or something and we lost time waiting… This process is driving me crazy…Thankfully we are in the final stages and just waiting to fill in dates. But that in itself is a task trying to schedule auditions around each other… :open_mouth:
