@MTMom624, S heard back from Ithaca on the same day he submitted. They had the fastest response by leaps and bounds!
I think hand written thank you notes are a very nice and thoughtful gesture. But I would not send them with any expectation of a response. Their purpose is to show gratitude and perhaps have something in your file that is memorable. If there was a funny exchange or something interesting you discussed during your audition, be sure to mention it in the thank you. Or if you were on campus and had more interaction, say something in the note that will remind them of who you are. Remember they are seeing hundreds of kids, so the more you can help them remember who you are and your audition the better. They will appreciate a sincere note of thanks.
Having said that, if you have a question or need response about something, email is the way to do that. It is much easier for someone to respond to an email.
@BWmama An admission counselor at Pace emailed me confirming that Pace does need official test scores, but they can be emailed by the school counselor. Email address is undergradadmission@pace.edu
@MTMom624 My D submitted to Ithaca on 10/13 and heard back on 10/26, so it was 10 business days for us.
@Kkrazie - you make a valid point with weather- but NY/Chicago are theater hubs (with a variety of schools in the area- which expands unifieds). Dallas doesn’t have that. If you want to do your auditions in Dallas - Moonifieds is your best bet
@toowonderful - Dallas/Ft Worh has the 4th largest theater district in the USA. Dallas has the flights, weather, hotels & colleges will go wherever convention/Unifieds are held. Unifieds were once in Vegas. Moonifieds is a niche audition only open to clients of CAC. Whereas Unifieds is open to all. Now if Unifieds were in May I’d be all for Chicago & the great weather then. Many a college BFA MT from all other the country are getting equity cards at theaters in DFW’s summer stock. Be prudent to move middle of America audition to warmer weather spot for February. Going back to Vegas would be great too.
@Kkrazie - i’m Cleveland - which believe it or not, has the 2nd largest theater district in the country. (Playhouse square). Doesn’t make us NYC or Chicago - which are also major hubs for theater TRAINING. Again, I totally concede your point about the hassles of weather - though many schools are IN cold snowy places, so switching the destination doesn’t eliminate all travel issues. And you are also correct that if schools chose to hold auditions elsewhere, people will have now choice but to follow. But idk what their incentive would be- they already have a system in place. If an auditioner is worried about weather for unifieds- they should go to LA.
@mteverlasting we submitted on sept 18 and heard back October 18 from Boco
The main issue I’d see between Chicago and Dallas is far more people can drive (or train/bus) to Chicago. It’s within an 8-hour drive of Pittsburgh, Memphis, Kansas City and Minneapolis. If a huge storm hits it will be an issue, but big storms cause flight cancellations/delays going in/out of Dallas if you have to connect in the Midwest. Not a ton of cities within 8-hours of Dallas or Las Vegas.
I think Atlanta would be a suitable option if there is a Unifieds switch. There is a Unified option in LA for those not wanting to risk winter’s moodiness.
They must do the prescreen reviews in batches, with varying notification times. We submitted applications over Oct 12-15; heard from Ithaca Oct 16, Syracuse Oct 24, BoCo Oct 26. Just added Pace so waiting for that one, and UMichigan sent a vague email that artistic materials had been reviewed, but waiting for test scores to be sent (jjust wrote ACT last w/e October). Good luck to everybody………it is stressful but we are having a lot of fun with it too. The prescreen took 5 times as long as it should have, because of me (the cameraman) laughing out loud, running out of batteries, knocking over the tripod, coughing; we had a motorcycle gang revving their engines outside for about 10min, oh, and had to pause for a flock of about 100 Canada geese honking next door. Honestly, you can’t make this stuff up.
@MTSongbirdMom Oh, that’s so sad. I’m very sorry for your loss.
@ohiomtgirl22 - My D has a friend who is a senior MT at Ohio Northern. She is actually double majoring in MT AND International Theatre Production - an option they offer there. She loves it!
My D is waitlisted for BW audition as well!
Exciting two days at our house! My D received prescreen passes from Shenandoah and Carnegie. Still waiting on Otterbein, TX State, and Elon.
@carriemc95 -Congrats 2 fantastic programs!
Anyone have an applicant to Emerson? For MT they only need a vocal prescreen which my D submitted a couple weeks ago. Wondering what their turnaround is… Thank you!!
I feel like the prescreen is new for Emerson , so hard to tell.
In case it’s helpful: my S submitted a prescreen to Emerson on 9/28, and heard back (yes!) on 10/8.
@212121 Thank you and congrats to your S. I did find on their website that they’ll take up to 3 weeks. So ugh…we’ll be patient a little longer…
