The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@mt summer help there are a bunch of chain hotels near campus. Pick a brand and start collecting points!!!

In the same vein, wondering if any recommendations for hotel at or near Baldwin Wallace. I see it’s pretty much adjacent to Cleveland airport so must be a bunch of airport hotels. Do you think we need to rent a car there, or just a taxi to and from campus? Tagging on this leg after Chicago unifieds.

D did find out that she passed her UMich prescreen, so she’s been lucky to get a yes from all of her pre-auditions; I empathize with everybody waiting for news, this is stressful! Best wishes to all for safe travel and adventures during the upcoming audition season. All of her US applications are to “reach” schools so her expectations are tempered but still excited to try. More than anything, we are looking forward to bonding time with our child before she leaves home, and anticipate a healthy mix of tears and lots of laughs.

As we are Canadian, we’ve had Thanksgiving already but wishing you all a happy US holiday!

@CanaDad There are a number of hotels very near Baldwin Wallace; anything at the airport puts you 10-15 minutes away. You can Uber from the airport and shouldn’t need a car.

@NYKaren @minicp @lithpool my daughter has been academically accepted as well. We toured last spring but just a general tour-did not even see the theater! She will audition in January and attend the scholar weekend. I would love to hear more about your experiences and/or knowledge of the program and school.

One of my thanks for today…I am thankful for everyone on college confidential that has travelled this road and shared their knowledge and support to make things smoother for those that followed! I am also thankful for all of you sharing the journey now!

@minicp My D will also be auditioning at Florida Southern in February so hopefully we will see you there! Like yours she just couldn’t make another date work. We got a very generous merit aid package with her academic acceptance, but it’s going to seem like forever getting to that visit! It’s at the top of her list currently with a couple of schools she has actually visited.

Congrats to all that have gotten those first artistic acceptances!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

@MToverload when did you submit for Rider? Still waiting here.

@frisbee3 Submitted 10/14. Good luck!!

@MToverload Where did you see the acceptance? Email, acceptd?

@CanadaDad Many of the local hotels provide shuttle services to B-W and the airport. We just used Uber to go shopping but even walked to eat. We stayed at Towneplace Suites Cleveland Airport.

@loribelle Thank you

@CanaDad I auditioned for BW twice (once as a senior and once as I transferred out of Ryerson), and both times my father and I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Cleveland Airport South. We are Marriott loyalty members (even after having been on a national tour of a musical, Marriotts are still some of my favourite hotels!) and that hotel was very convenient–a 5-minute drive to the Conservatory of Music.

@MToverload Just for reference, my Son submitted to Rider on Oct. 21 and just heard back that he passed prescreen on Nov. 21. So about a month.

we got an email from Rider admissions saying " Please regard this message as notification that you have passed the pre-screening and will soon hear from us regarding your live call-back audition."

@frisbee3 My D received an email just like @collegeboundSam. It came directly through email, not through getaccptd. HTH.

@CanaDad For those visiting BW–lots of hotels nearby (all the chains) but too far to walk to campus. We did rent a car and that was really cheap–only $65 for our two day visit–allowed us our first night to drive into Cleveland for diinner. So you can uber–but parking was easy (and BW had a shuttle). Lots of options!

I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday weekend!! It feels like the calm before the audition storm! ? Can anyone shed some insight on scheduling auditions at NY unified? I’m seeing just 2 days on the website. Unlike Chicago that has 4 days…How do you gauge if you can pack several schools into a single day?

@penny1234 I’m not sure our strategy will work but we booked auditions for non-prescreen schools at the extreme ends of either day. We’re hoping if my D passes any of her prescreens for schools attending NY Unifieds, we’ll be able to have the majority of the day available for them to schedule the audition.

@penny1234 While the “official” unified dates are saturday and sunday, lots of schools are there at other locations and ranging from Friday to Tuesday (CMU for example is there 4 days; Penn State only 2). An audition coach at a workshop told us that logistically you can do 2 a day and most scheduled auditions have an AM and a PM slot (which includes introductions, dance call, and individual auditions). So I made a chart for my S, scheduling those only there on Friday or Tuesday on those dates and reserving Sat and Sun for schools with only 2 days of auditions. It was like a math problem (which is why i did it FOR my S!) I can’t speak to how walk-ins work except that as you get closer to the date you might get actual audition times, allowing you to squeeze in another.(and i’ve heard much easier for acting majors because no dance call).

@carriemc95 - Hi! My D auditioned for Belmont MT on Oct. 27th and really liked everything she experienced that day. On Nov. 14th she received a letter dated Nov. 12th notifying her that she had been admitted to MT. She has a friend who auditioned the same day, but still hasn’t heard anything. I’m not sure if Belmont notifies those who are wait-listed or whose decision is delayed until spring auditions. Since you said some have received no’s, it’s possible that those who haven’t heard anything are decision delayed. Best of luck to you and your D!

@MTMomma13 - I feel for you and your D! My D didn’t pass two of her pre-screens (Carnegie Mellon and Syracuse), and it definitely stung. She recently, though, got her 2nd acceptance to Belmont, which is a great fit for her. After reading through last year’s final decision post, there is just no rhyme or reason for many of the program decisions. Best of luck to you and your D! I hope she finds the program that’s perfect for her!
