The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@MTMomma13 and mine does nude tights with nude colored jazz shoes. So either choice is perfectly fine - but make sure they are both the same.

@NYart15 oh wow I didn’t even think about that! Very nice, thank you!

@MTBackstagemom Looks like you are on track with 9 auditions; congrats on the pre-screen successes! My D also did not pass Ithaca prescreens, but passed and has auditions for CMU, Penn State, Michigan, and more. We are attending NYC Unifieds, but our visit to NYC includes an NYU-Steinhardt Audition on Sunday and only two Saturday auditions (morning and afternoon). So it looks we can get through 3 without staying for the extra days on Monday or Tuesday. We have not been through this process before and were not sure if we could to 2 schools or 10 schools at the Unified events before we started (ok, maybe not 10, but more than two)…

@MTMomma13 last year at MT auditions my D wore an orange Lulu lemon tank with built in Sports bra and a second sports bra & black leggings with dance shoes. It was great and she did fine in all her dance calls.

We are in the same boat for Chicago, had hoped to do all but BW there and do the latter on a circular trip home. A number of the schools have you block off an entire day for them, some are only there for a couple of days, and some aren’t flexible about changing dates or times at all. It now looks like we have 6 days of Chicago auditions on and off site Sat-Thurs, to get 6 schools in for sure, maybe 7. Not as smooth as we hoped, might have to re-jigger it somehow or do a couple of on campus auditions…

I applied to penn state, rutgers, fairfield, university at buffalo, st johns, temple, umass amherst and did early decision at syracuse. A lot of these schools are a little bit of a reach for me as I have a 87.7 gpa and 1130 SAT (which is why I ED syracuse). However, I have a strong background such as a unique family situation, plenty of extracurriculars and sports, and an internship concerning the career field I want to pursue. I did an off campus interview for Syracuse which I feel went well and shows I took initiative however I feel that I left a few important leadership roles out when I was asked (but I was sure to cover them on my common app). What do you guys think about all of these schools? my chances? Hoping for the absolute best as cuse is my dream school (:

Hey @13giants94 - you’re on the Musical Theatre forum so before we can chance you… we really need to hear you sing.

Well we get an extra couple days back in New York in February… D previously passed prescreen for Pace for MT and will audition during Unifieds, but they let you submit prescreens for their other acting programs without paying an additional fee. She liked her previous visit to Pace so she decided to submit… and she passed all 3. So she’ll audition at 9am, noon and 3pm on campus all on the same day for the International Performance Ensemble (BA Acting), BFA Acting and BFA Acting for Film, Television, Voiceovers & Commercials programs. I’m starting to think she just likes visiting the city…

@mtnyc19 My S and I toured the campus and department only a couple months ago with the sole purpose of determining if the program would be worth applying to. It is absolutely true that SC has a great reputation in the arts, and it would be a fun place to be, but honestly, when we met with the department, one of the lead faculty shared with us that they still had not set the curriculum. At that point they knew what would be covered in the first…and maybe second year, but they were still working on the rest. They did not have plans for a senior showcase because that is “four years away”, and it just did not feel like it was as ready as it should have been at that point. I think someday it could be a force to reckon with…as the west coast definitely needs some schools to step up overall, but not sure my S will be applying to be in the first graduating class. Might be too much money to wonder what you will get. Who knows…they could be so cutting edge and “new” that those kids will rule the world someday. It is a risk!

Advice needed from any of the “experts” out there that have experienced this in the past. My S is applying MT programs and has passed a handful of prescreens at this point. We know we are going to have to travel to at least one Unified audition site, but he may not hear back from all of the schools until later in December given his delays in submitting applications. Some he is waiting for are “favorites”, so he is hoping for good news. How do we go about scheduling these things with so many unknowns? What if we schedule an audition and then it is the only time available for another school? Are you allowed to change your appointment time, or do you just lose the opportunity? I am trying so hard to be organized, but I don’t know how to plot this out. Thoughts?

@luvbloominroses I don’t know if I’m an expert, but we went through this last year. I started by trying to schedule one each day - either early or late in the day and trying to leave the other part of the day open for those schools that notified us later. Unless things have changed, it seemed like the most a school asked for was a 4 hour block. BOCO was the worst for the schedule because they had you block off a couple of hours in the morning and then another hour or two in the afternoon as they split their dance call and the rest of the audition that way. Otherwise, we had a few that asked for a 4 hour block and some that only asked for a shorter amount of time if they didn’t do a dance call. Some schools will do the dance call on Sunday (Michigan and a few others) or late afternoon/evening (ball state) which makes it easier to schedule something else during the day. NYU had a Saturday audition which we took advantage of. I’m not sure if there were other schools on Saturday or not, but that definitely helped as NYU had the kids busy for a full 4-5 hours. Additionally, we did have a school notify us of an audition time after I had scheduled a different school at that block, and they were very easy to work with in rescheduling.

Good morning, everyone.
Does Boston Conservatory need your high school transcript before looking at your prescreen?

@BWmama No they don’t. Deadline for getting transcripts and other documents in, is in January. We got a prescreen result back in October, but haven’t gotten transcripts and all supporting documents in yet.

Does Shenandoah send out academic acceptances prior to artistic acceptances? Or is it at the same time? Just curious.

@carriemc95 I think the academic and audition are done at the same time during the prescreen evaluation

@CanaDad Thanks. It’s hard to keep up, but I am thankful for everyone keeping me straight.

@carriemc95 and @CanaDad My daughter passed her prescreen for Shenandoah but didn’t get academic acceptance letter yet.

Any word on Rider for anyone? Still nothing here. My daughter sent them an email tonight.

We can finally understand the anxiety of waiting for prescreens responses! It’s been 2 weeks, and we’ve heard from one school, which, unfortunately was a no. The next one due in is from Coastal. I know that some who submitted prescreens early had delayed responses due to the closing associated with weather, but we are curious as to what your wait times for Coastal were for prescreens responses. TY!

@lithpool My daughter submitted her Coastal prescreen on 9/26 and received a reply on 10/10 - Hope that helps!
