Congratulations to your D, @NYart15 !!!

@NYart15 , Congratulations!! ?

@CaliMTdreams @CaMom13 @NYKaren
Thank you so much!!!
We’re over the moon. BAL to you all as well.

@Canadad We stayed at the Hampton last year and it worked out perfectly. If I remember right, my son had 7-8 scheduled auditions and did 3 walk-ins. It’s quite manageable and we liked being able to get out of that hotel. In addition to the other advice which is spot on… The hotel has a bit of an odd layout. We went over the evening before the auditions started to see the layout. It didn’t help us that much as not all the schools were around and the room locations weren’t printed out yet so we went over early the morning of the start of auditions and grabbed a copy of that print-out. If you go to the palmer house website, you can print out a hotel layout in advance and see where the clusters of conference rooms are located. If it is like last year, the printouts and main announcement boards are on the 3rd floor. There is a bigger lounge type area on the 7th floor and there are announcement boards as you get off the elevators there too. I just sat in that 7th floor lounge with my book and the coats, backpack, etc. I brought my own backpack with my computer and kindle, etc.to make the wait go faster. He had breaks between auditions so we often sought out a coffee shop outside the Palmer or went back to our room at the Hampton. I know some people appreciated not having to leave the hotel, but we are northerners and were not bothered by the weather at all. I’d try to get some tickets to whatever the Majestic is showing some night. Also - if you have a day free and want to take a break, the art institute is just a couple of blocks and was a fun diversion for us.

Has anyone heard from Hartt School or University of Hartford for academic acceptance? My daughter has heard from most of her schools academically, but not this one. Just curious. Thanks all! :slight_smile:

On the Palmer House Website are maps of the Hotel by floor you can print out in advance for Unifieds. But concierge desk will have on arrival too. They also provide a detailed schedule of audition rooms.

@kkrazie @speezagmom @Onourown Thanks very much…

@CaliMTdreams We have not heard back from University of Hartford regarding academic admission either. Not sure if they wait until after auditions.

@CaliMTdreams @afterp89
My did D an on-campus audition at Hartt on 12/8. In the information session, they told parents that the kids should’ve received an email re: acceptance to U. of Hartford or an email requesting missing information. I asked my D as neither of us could remember seeing anything but she ended up finding an old email that she received in October shortly after she submitted the application. It’s not an obvious offer of admission but we confirmed with staff while we were there that that was indeed the acceptance to the University. It informed my D that her academic materials met the criteria for entrance and she could proceed to the audition.
Hope that helps…

First post here, but I browse the forum often and have gotten so much help from it!! I am wondering if anyone here has experience auditioning at NYU Steinhardt? We emailed them to ask about how long the audition day would be and they responded that the audition would last 10-15 minutes. Just want to make sure there aren’t any informational meetings or anything other than the personal audition that they didn’t mention before I schedule our flight home. Thanks for your help!

I laugh at the Chicago weather. Looks like swimsuit weather this weekend since it will hit the 50’s. Midwest weather can change dramatically within 24 hours. While the city tends to hold the heat, with the wind off the lake it can be bitter. Nanook of the north is the usual fashion statement in the loop.

Thanks @afterp89 - we will contact them!

What is breakfast like at the Palmer House during Chicago Unifieds? Chaos? Slow? Or do they handle the large number of people well? Buffet? Are you better off doing room service?

@suledamo - my D didn’t audition at Steinhart so I can’t help you on scheduling but I can offer you some advice on flights - go in and out of Newark if you can. :slight_smile: Driving or taking an Uber to JFK or LGA can be very nerve wracking as traffic is really bad heading out of the city but you can take the AirTrain to/from EWR to NYC Penn and Uber or take the subway Penn Station from/to Washington Square. My kid is a freshman at NYU (Tisch) and I’ve tried it both ways as has she - it’s really much easier and faster to go through EWR. BAL and I hope someone else can help you out on Steinhart info.

@CanaDad My d had 9 auditions in 3 days (Sun, Mon, Tues) so you should be OK. I stuck with my D so I could watch her stuff and help with quick changes in bathrooms and do hair because my d has to have hair in a bun when dancing (even though we stayed in Hotel) Pace was at Joffrey Ballet so had to change in that bathroom too. As far as warming up - the room and stairwells LOL It is chaos. As far a questions - some barely look at you (this goes probably esp for girls) but if they do talk to you it is probably a good sign. Have other interests to talk about and be confident. I think they decide if they are interested the minute you walk in the room. Try to relax and smile and be professional.

and yes - bring speaker and you can use music from phone but PUT PHONE ON AIRPLANE MODE!!! yes my d learned that the hard way. Make sure everything is charged

plan on introducing yourself and going right into your audition unless they ask you questions first. If they have a piano then I think you go to them and plan tempo and instructions first.

^^^^great pro tips for Unifieds - all of the above! Also - bring safety pins for dance call number-pinning! they have them at the concierge desk (do not underestimate the concierge desk - they are awesome!) or CVS across from the hotel. And girls - don’t feel like you have to wear a dress and a ballerina bun unless that’s “you.” All my D’s BFA yeses came from middle-to-later in the week auditions where she literally let her hair down, had jewelry on and personality popping.

Yet another “no” for USC for our household. ? Luckily over it pretty quick as soon as DS realized he is in excellent company! Moving on!

Haven’t heard about any yeses for USC - wow. Agreed - moving on!!

@SoCalPops The breakfast was really pretty doable. Seating is crowded, but you can definately grab your food and take it back to the room with you. They have a buffet set up and extra stations set up with coffee, juice, muffins, fruit, etc. We never used room service. Breakfast and snacks at the hotel and enjoyed restaurants in the evening.

Just got an email from NYU Steinhardt (son is auditioning next Saturday). It doesn’t say anything about how long the audition is or anything about information sessions, sitting in on a class, Q&A with students, or anything else. it does mention that there are warm up rooms available first come, first serve on the 9th floor of a building that is different from where the auditions will be. Also says to arrive at least 30 minutes before your time slot.
