I have now enlisted The Container Store for three Elfa designs in three different closets - two clothes closets (one in my closet at our former home, and now one in my closet at our new home) and today one for our new laundry closet because we decided to go with a new stackable washer/dryer as opposed to the old side-by-side. The two previous walk-in closets were professionally installed by them, but what we bought today seemed very easy to do ourselves, so we decided to give it a try. After we made the purchase, but before we left the store, the store manager showed us a special code on our receipt that we can use to log onto their website - the code will provide a video of how to install everything specific to our new closet only! I think this is genius. Really looking forward to working on this project tomorrow.
This is the one store I can go in, thinking I need nothing, and walk out with something… every time. And it’s not the kind of stuff that I buy and never use; I always use it. I typically hate going into stores to go shopping, but this is the one exception. I sort of feel bad for people who don’t have one of these stores near them. But again, I love to organize stuff, and this feeds into my addiction.
I love the Container store, too- probably best there is not one within 250 miles of me.
I will be going to an Ikea store in a week and am excited. I know they do not deliver here.
Target is the closest I get to a container store.
D loves the container store. She loves to organize and she loves containers, so it’s like they designed the store just for her. Unfortunately, she does not have the budget to shop there, nor is she old enough to work there, nor am I inclined to pay the prices they charge for all their specialty stuff. But it does make one WANT to buy it all!
I don’t know if they still do this, but back in the summer before my D started college, the local Container Store had a college freshman event on a Saturday, with extended hours, substantial discounts and extra sales help on the floor. It was a madhouse, but great fun. Everyone there was a student or a student’s mom (maybe a few dads), and all the kids were chatting, exchanging info about what schools they were heading to and trading ideas about what to buy. I realized in later years that we could have done a lot better dollar-wise getting similar stuff at Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond, which have really expanded their college-bound merchandise in the last ten years, but there is undeniable appeal to The Container Store’s stylish and cleverly designed products.
@MommaJ - I think they still have something similar. Today when we went back (I made some tweaks to the design we had for the laundry closet, so had to exchange some stuff) I remember seeing a sign at the store, but since I no longer have any college students, I didn’t pay too much attention!
I’ve been shopping at The Container Store ever since it was Container Solutions. It really does have just about anything you can imagine for storage. I found a perfect acrylic necklace rack to hang on the closet wall for those large necklaces. The one thing I couldn’t find was a display stand specifically for fans (from China and Japan). So I ended up using plate stands.
They usually have a “stocking stuffer” kind of sale with lots of unusual items good for teens and college age. I’ve gotten little Chanukah gifts there.
They have great bookcases and any kind of storage you need. Really a great store. They ship anywhere. We went ahead and shipped things out to college dorm directly from the store. I also like Bed, Bath and Beyond for kitchen, bath, and storage/containers. but yes, Container store has great color, and well made items. great kitchen and office sections.
Reading this made me curious so I checked the website for a store in my area. Pittsburgh will be getting a store in October. Until then, I think our closest store is Columbus.
