i’ve been hearing stuff like international students are more likely to get into schools which want looooots of diversity and stuff, but how true is that, and how much does that factor come into play by the adcomm while actually looking through applications?
and will ‘diversity’ still be a top priority especially under the reign of donald trump, where students are randomly getting their visas rejected?
also tips on which colleges want a more diverse bunch, might want to apply to
International students are mainly appreciated for the money they bring in. Many universities view international students as “cash cows” and even pay international recruiters who solicit full-paying applicants.
Smaller colleges who give financial aid seem to appreciate international students for their effects on admission rates. Advertise 10 financial aid packages/scholarships to international students, get 1000 additional applications from aid-seeking foreigners, lower your overall admission rate from 50% to 30%, climb in the rankings from #80 to #40.
Intangibles like diversity are nice, but at the end of the day, it’s mostly about money.
A white international student who can pay $60,000 per year is a lot more likely to get in than an international student of color who can pay $30,000 (or less.)
