I belong to another group which is a bit different from CC in that the participants aren’t anonymous and it’s more of a listserve. Someone came up with the idea of a year-end thread to note for one last time the regulars who exited the group that year, and usually there were others who know/knew them and would add a line or two. It’s a bit different I guess in groups like this and few of the others I belong to where you may have exchanged notes with someone every other day for years, and one fine day the person just vanishes into cyber vacuum, and chances are nobody has any idea what happened.
Well, both S and D have gotten their degrees, but I’m still hanging out around here. Will sign out before I leave, if that ever happens.
I still miss northstarmom. And curmudgeon rarely pops up anymore.
I was thinking of mini and BC Eagle not too long ago - maybe it’s already a year since they left.
I agree with everybody previously mentioned.
Mini is doing great works.
I think Kluge is gone.
Happy New Year to everybody!
I noticed that Niquii77 has been absent for awhile. )-:
Happy New Year!
I still miss sunriseast. There was a young poster named emmaheevul07, or something close to that, who got married and left, maybe because she felt some hostility. I’m hoping boysx3 is doing better.
I guess curmudgeon has not been completely out of here. The last time I “heard” of him was 12-15-2014. But I guess after his D’s residency application cycle is over next march, it is more likely he will be absent.
BRM and BDM have really been absent. So are their next generation norcalguy, shade_children, to just name a few. But these are students, not parents.
TheDad, Marite and Jamimom from years ago along with Athena
Sunriseast had a big impact on me; I still hope that her family considers publishing her memoir. I learned so much from the way she chose to live her life despite a terrible, awful disease. I hope her sons are doing well; her earliest post was to ask how to best tell them.
That was very very sad… I remember her. I have been here since 2002… Gawd, who knows where the time goes!
I still miss latetoschool; and I wonder how her daughter is doing.
Although I didn’t create an account until 2005, I’ve also been here since 2002, anxiousmom. When this thread was started, I thought not only of sunriseeast, but also of latetoschool. Someone on cc had a child who was friends with sunrise east’s youngest son, but only learned of it after her passing. I can’t remember who it is.
I’m long past the stage of strategizing over how many times to have a kid take standardized tests and other college strategy, but the posters on the Parents Cafe keep me coming back to get advice about food, travel, & home renovations, as well as to discuss our favorite television shows. There’s also my current favorite thread on coralbrook’s house flipping adventures that I consider a “must check” each day. The most poignant threads have been those related to latetoschool and sunriseeast, though. In many different ways, I’ve gained much by being part of this community.
I also become less and less interested in school stuff because our nest is empty. I am more into parent cafe (somewhat random) topics. I guess I will never been tired of the retirement and wedding threads in the coming years. This reflects the stage of the life I am in, I think.
I do not know Sunriseast, But the name mini the marvelous social activist (IMHO) is familiar to me. (His D obtained an insanely high SAT score while very young and went to Smith College, I think.)
I often wonder how Hollie Sue (NY) and Emmy Bet (WI) are doing. I think they called themselves “The twins”!
I echo what others have said. Marite went to check out an apartment for my son. Curmudgeon helped my son thru snowstorm when his daughter and my son stuck in Philly with interviews at same school. Jamimom, Robyn–, the dad, so many wonderful voices. Grace beyond–sunrise east and latetoschool.
I have often thought of mini, bceagle, marite, jamimom, kluge, northstarmom, curmudgeon, berurah, and mythmom this year, and have missed their participation here.
Hindoo was our greatest diplomat… her kids are out of college and she left us when the politics forum closed down.
We are still in touch IRL, but wish she were out here to add her own pithy advice sometimes! And wonder whatever happened to BulletandPima.
Jamimom I admired her. Carolyn was the greatest
I will never forget latetoschool; or epistrophy, who was especially supportive of lts. Epistrophy had a fascinating blog with links to snippets of jazz music but I lost track of it. I also miss marite.
