The Final Payment!

Just wanted to give a little shout out to all of us families who just paid the final payment to the bursar’s office!! Daughter is entering final semester and besides all of the angst surrounding that rite of passage, paying the last bursar’s bill and not having to fill out the FAFSA ever again and not having to nag at husband to do his taxes NOW NOW NOW-- Holy Mackerel! Nothing feels better… See, we even had to apply for financial aid all through pre-school, lower school, middle school, and upper school because daughter went to a private school. In order to get scholarship money for that we had to do, basically, the same thing as we did for college. So for us, we did the FA dance every January for the past 18 years.

Woo-hoo!!

Happy 2011!

Woo-hoo indeed. Congratulations, and glad you made it.

Congrats franglish! Thanks for reminding us that there is an end to these college payments!

Congratulations, franglish! I remember the thrill of that last year at this time and it was such a relief to know we no longer had to fill out the FAFSA. Enjoy the freedom!

I will be making the final payment within a week or two. I certainly won’t miss that! And I won’t miss having to do the FAFSA. But I will certainly miss the whole college experience of my kids. For the last ten years, researching, visiting, applying to, and selecting colleges, moving them in, moving them out, meeting their friends, listening to their stories and experiences (both good and bad), watching them grow and mature has been a focal part of our lives. We have loved visiting them on campus and feeling that vibe of youthful exuberance and hope looking toward their futures.

But for now it is very exciting to realize that this is the last payment!

Congratulations to all that are in the same boat!

Absolutely. Not having that any longer will make me sad… But also excited to see the next step. Whatever that will be.

Congrats to all who are making their last payments to the colleges this year. WOOHOO!! We felt like we had won the lottery!!! (we actually gave our kids as a gift…the payments on their stafford loans for at least a couple of years…a FRACTION of the cost of paying for them to go to college…a bargain!!!).

And for some the actual payments are just starting… paying off student loans.

We made the final payment in December, and boy did it feel good! I’m glad she’s home for another couple of weeks, for the last of her long formal vacations. Of couse, we now have to worry about that possible “permanent” vacation if she can’t find a job!

The worrying never ends, does it?

Just made the final payment here as well! Very exciting! And S has a job already in hand to start in May…whoo hoo!!

We also made our last payment, but it was from her college account. She has ~$15,000 left as her seed money for after college. She is relocating to Europe. She already has a job there. We are very lucky that neither graduated w/debt.

Final payment being made on Monday and YAY no more FAFSA. Told DD she cannot go to grad school until she is 24 and I don’t have to fill it out anymore. .

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but months after we made D1’s graduation, we got an invoice from her university saying she still had a balance. It took several phone calls on my behalf to find out it was all in error, but what a shock to the system when I had psychologically set in my mind we were done with her.

I have two more payments left for D2; I probably won’t feel complete relief until several months after her graduation and am sure no stragglers will come in the mail.

Anyway, we also paid off our mortgage earlier this year, so in one year we will have ended all house payments and college payments!

Singers…she does NOT have to wait until she’s 24. If she has a bachelors degree, she is considered independent for financial aid purposes regardless of her age. Oh…except if she goes to law or medical school…your info could be requested REGARDLESS of her age.

Congrats to you! We will be there in 2014!

Ahh, thanks thumper. My prior experience was with S1 and law school. Some wanted our financial even though he was 28 and had been working and independent for years. He did not apply to those.

I am soooooo looking forward to making that last payment next December–if all goes according to plan.

Congratulations franglish and all of you making your final payment.

To franglish and all of us free of the FAFSA: Yippee!

Quarter system here, two more payments (one is late) and then can it really be over? Will there be another bill for graduation expense?

FAFSA does not bother me, still need that for S2. But…I am SO happy to be done with Profile!! I still remember the feeling of elation when I was a college sr. and done with doing my own FAFSA.

Have an 8th grader though. The reprieve is appreciated, though.

Will make the final 5 monthly payments this semester.
So looking forward to our raise in June ;)

Thumper, thanks for the idea.
Maybe my kids will get some unexpected loan payments this summer.
