The following colleges have changed admissions policies for this fall...

Tentatively, but likely:

UMich – eliminating rolling admissions
Stanford – eliminating recalculated GPA
Harvard – eliminating EA/ED
Princeton – eliminating ED
UVa – eliminating ED

This screws me over royally. Anyone want to add other colleges to this list?

EDIT: radron, I included the EA/ED changes I know about.

I am mad about UMich stopping rolling admission, I don’t really care if Stanford is eliminating recaluclated GPa, that’s good for me…

It would be nice to have a list of schools that don’ allow EA or ED anymore :)

Why’s Stanford eliminating recalculating GPA? That makes no sense.

Yea, but whatever…they will probably look at rank more now…

What is recalculated GPA? If it means that they are no longer recalculating one’s GPA once he or she applies, then this idea is completely ridiculous.

I don’t want them to look at rank so much…

But eliminating recalc. gpa is bogus.

Didn’t Yale eliminate ED?

Wow, this blows. I’m planning on applying to all of those schools.

Who cares if Early admission is over with, apply regular then…

With your logic sheed, maybe all schools should just throw out their early admissions policies, cause God knows they have no use.

Well, IMO i do not see any use for them except that you get your acceptance or rejection letter earlier. Who cares if there is a slightly higher acceptance rate for EA or ED, it’s not like if you had bad scores or grades during EA you will be looked over again.

How did Stanford calculate GPA?

And how will they now?

My school doen’t rank. >_> I think Yale terminated ED, but kept EA.

Sheed,

Stanford RD – 7 or 8 %
Stanford SCEA – 17 or 18%

Slightly higher? Mmk. And I’m pretty sure that if you’re not accepted, you’re automatically deferred, so yes, you do get a second look over.

Optimi.:
They throw out your freshman year grades, eliminate all +/-, and assign each letter grade a 4.0, 3.0, etc
And now…they don’t do that anymore. They’ll just take your high school UW GPA straight, from what I understand.

Thanks, Rence. :]

o Rence, I was just guessing…

so people are upset that Stanford is actually using a REAL gpa and not just one that makes you look a little better? i guess students will just have to work a little harder to get the same GPA that they would have on the old system

Cards, I highly doubt that colleges that recalculate GPA put these practices into place to make applicants “look a little better.” Freshman year is often a transitional year for students, not just a time when people decide to be lazy and “work less hard.” At least it was transitional for me, after freshman year and I adjusted, I got stellar grades. And +'s and -'s are seen as irrelevant from colleges such as Michigan and Stanford…at least until now.

WHOA Michigan’s getting rid of rolling admissions??? Can I have a source for that?

Its somewhere in one of the college’s blogs or something. I can’t locate the link.
