The George Washington University Transfer Admissions Package 2004

I am reviewing my finances 20 years later and realizing my Presidential Academic Scholarship was never applied in the year I transferred in 2004, or the next year in 2005. Does anyone have a similar admission transfer package award letter from 2004? I would like to see how it was presented to others, because I was under the assumption I was transferring with a need-based and merit-based scholarship, and neither were applied the first year. It’s possible I didn’t fill out the FAFSA effectively to get the need-based scholarship, but I thought I was supposed to get the merit-based Presidential Academic Scholarship year after year.

Can anyone help?

What do you hope to do with this information IF someone actually has it? Your college days ended 20 years ago, and any discrepancies in what happened would have needed to be resolved LONG before now.

There are no regulations that require keeping records of student scholarships or student financial records for 20 years. These things would be kept based on the school’s record retention policies, and schools write their retention policies taking into account any relevant state and federal regulations. Institutions purge records in accordance with their retention policies. GWU’s record retention policy requires a password to access, but I assume that it’s similar to Fordham’s (which is similar to many other schools: https://www.fordham.edu/media/home/departments-centers-and-offices/policies/pdfs/Records_Retention_and_Disposal_Schedule.pdf.

In other words, that ship has sailed. It’s too late to do anything about your situation.

It was never understood as GWEB info did not align with the financial aid bill. I just wanted to see what everyone else’s acceptance package looked like with scholarship information, as mine stated I had those awards upon admission. GW is now backtracking - every response from the registrar or finaid offices is different and none are comprehensive or make any sense.

I was awarded the scholarships, and we overpaid.

Yes, you’re right, the university record retention policy is only 5 years. I still believe I’m owed the refund for overpayment. It would’ve been resolved immediately if the communications were more clear all around. I just hoped someone else with those scholarships awarded would show me their admissions letter stating that they were awarded upon admission and would be applied that first semester for X number of semesters (or whatever the wording is).

20 years ago. In my opinion, that ship has sailed.
