The Grandparent Thread

Oh, yes, both GD1 and 2 had HFM last month. Not severe, but less energy than usual. Now they have COVID. GD2 wants to be held, unusual since she has FOMO and always wants to be part of the action (fierce crawler). S and DIL have mild symptoms, GD1 symptoms started today.

Do you remember how long it lasted.
D1 had Covid 2 weeks ago. Dad and GD were spared.

About a week, they overlapped a few days.

We have a new baby in the family. Baby Boy arrived last evening. He weighed in at 7lbs 12 oz. Both mother & baby are doing well.

So far I’m managing with the twins. After mom & dad left for the hospital (quite precipitously!) yesterday afternoon, I asked A & B what they wanted for dinner–their unanimous answer: Pancakes! So we had pancakes.

One big help–I dropped the dog off at doggie daycare at 8 am this morning and he will board there for the next 2 nights. (He’s twice as much trouble to deal with than the twins.)

Hopefully mom, dad baby brother will come home tomorrow morning. Nanny is out of town for the long weekend and backup babysitter can’t come until Monday afternoon.

It’s going to be a long afternoon…

Congratulations @WayOutWestMom. Good luck with the twins!

Congratulations to the family. Hope all goes well for the rest of your time with the girls, and I hope the meeting of the siblings goes well too.

Our GD had hand, foot and mouth when she was about 2 maybe? It was BC (before covid). Bigger issue was DS#1 (her dad) got it from her and had blisters all over his hands so badly his phone back then wouldn’t recognize his thumbprint!

So sorry you and yoru d and gs are going through this, @momocarly. Its so hard when the other parent is so difficult and so irresponsible. When did they split up? I hope the dad eventually puts his s’s needs first.

We are currently visiting ours s’s and trying to help babysit or help with chores where we can. Younger s’s w was out of town this weekend so he had babysitting detail alone with the 6 mo old. DH helped him do some cheating while GS nappped and I tried to help oldster s and his w with their 2 kids while they were dealing with painters and appliance delivery/removal at the house they just moved from and are getting ready to sell. Then we met them at the park this morning and went to the farmers market with them and took the kids so they can get some work done at their new house. I am in the hotel room with the napping 18 mo old (I purposely got a bigger, corner room so we could easily fit the crib in here for whichever of the 2 younger ones needed to nap) and DH is with the soon-to-be 5 year old down at the pool. HE just got hearing aids. I really, really hope he remembered to take them out. I forgot to remind him……

This will be my last week of half-time babysitting for my GD. She starts childcare 3x/week next week. I get to watch her every Tuesday & will help out whenever needed … but I will miss being with my little buddy more often. On the other hand, she is definitely ready to have playmates and additional opportunities for play based exploration. She will be at an excellent facility with a small class and great teacher-toddler ratio. D waited a long time for this opening, and D should thrive. My heart isn’t quite ready, but my back is!

Does he call it babysitting? I think Dads do better when they think of it as parenting, whether or not other parent is there. (Getting off my soapbox now.)

No that was just my quick typing while I was babysitting. He has daddy detail. Not sure the correct term. The posts here were talking about babysitting so they was the term in my head. Sorry to confuse.

Congratulations, @WayOutWestMom, to you and your family! Welcome to your new grandson! I’ll be sending all my good thoughts your way.

My dear GS, the beautiful boy I have been blessed to care for the last five years whenever D was at work, started kindergarten last week. He is ready, but I’m not sure I am. When asked after school to rate his day, he didn’t hesitate to call it a 10 the first two days. When asked the third day, he changed his answer. He said it was a 100. GD misses him terribly. Preschool will start this week.

D1 told me that they just interviewed for a preschool for next fall. It will be 4 mornings a week, 3 hours a day. She is growing up too fast.
They are going to keep the nanny until she is in school full time.

I bought Sesame Street pajamas for my grands last Christmas and the youngest 2 have worn their Elmo jammies like it was their job. They still look new despite heavy wear and frequent washings. I bought a few Hanna pieces for my kids years ago and the quality was excellent. Looks like that hasn’t changed, so good head up @BunsenBurner!

Thanks for the head’s up! I bought 10 pieces (3 were clearance) - at least one thing for all 3 Gkids. I know DD and the kids will be excited for the new items.

@ BB–thank you for the tip!! I loved buying those clothes for my kids. I’m charging over there to get stuff for just turned 20-month old GD. Hopefully, there’s some good stuff left.

There was a HA outlet store not too far from where we live, so I would swing by every time I was in that neighborhood. Sadly, it closed. Their cotton was and still is very high quality.

I need to go through my boxes from when DD1 and DD2 were young. One Christmas, I ordered some items with gift box so they had that to open - had matching skirt and hat pieces which they were fond of. I need to see what I can find for GD because she is getting big enough for some of that stuff. Recently DD2 saw a cute jacket which I had pulled out from storage (but still too big for GD) which was not HA but DD said it was ‘her favorite’. Grow out of the stuff while it is still in like new condition.
