The Grandparent Thread

Oh, Okay. I misunderstood. I thought the way you said “their mini Boden line” meant their house brand a la Cat and Jack for Target.

No problem! It may well be helpful advice for others here!

Yes, my wording was not the best!

I got that for GD last Xmas.

The one ‘toy’ that got the most use, by my kids and their friends, was the costume box. Everyone loved it. Many princess dresses (Disney) but a lot of capes, wands, shoes. Not many masks, but most other things. Most I made (I sew) but many picked up around Halloween and the before/after sales.

My niece (is 3 years older than my kids) would put on a disney princess outfit before watching the movie (it was really very cute). Belle, complete with the red christmas cape I made for her, was her favorite.

GD has had two nuggets since she was a year old. She will be two in December & still loves playing on them! Her absolute favorite toy is her water table … but that won’t work for every living situation.

Those bricks are the best toy ever. When I was a kid we had a set for younger brother and sister that got heavy use. I had a set for my kids as well. I had forgotten about them, so thanks for jogging my memory!

Our grands disassemble the sofa into pillows and use them as building materials to construct castles for the cats! Also, who would have thought that toddlers could fit into cat cozies?! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Those are great. We bought similar ones made by Bankers Box (in the USA also) in red, blue and yellow. H started building towers that GD could peek through and she loved seeing herself in an acrylic mirror placed opposite the opening.

Bankers Box also makes play houses in various styles that have just black outlines on the white cardboard so children can color them however they like.

My granddaughters just got a Nugget couch and they LOVE it. They jump and bounce on it, make forts and tunnels with the cushions and crawl through them, play sandwich (which mean they get between the folding cushions and have an adult drop the other half down on them) and it’s great to sit on to read stories. (and much easier for Grandma’s knees than getting up off the floor.)

My grandchildren are little consumers. They watch screens. And the shows they don’t watch they hear about at preschool/school or the playground. So, through the years I’ve bought Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, and Wild Kratts toys and books. Someone else gave my granddaughter a Sophia the First costume for her birthday when she was 3 and she loved it. (Princess Sophia is a Disney character). That’s what they wanted.

Other slightly less commercial gifts for 3 year olds include kraft kits, especially the Alex brand–Busy Box, Paper Bag Monsters, Picture Mosaic Kits, etc. Some are for older kids, but many start at age 3 and though they may need a little help, they are great for a rainy day or quiet time when little sibling is taking a nap.

One of the musical “instrument” sets for toddlers might also be good.

Oh, saw you think they have enough toys and books. You might pay for a class or an experience.

For classes, I see the next session of Tinkergarten starts September 19. That’s short notice, but there may be availability in your area. My older grandchildren did this and enjoyed it. About Us | Tinkergarten

You might also try some music classes like Music Together. Again, my older grandchildren did this and enjoyed it. Our local community theatre has classes for kids as young as 3 in things like “pre-ballet” and “preschool drama”

Just got the parts for a costume box! Target had the best selection and price. All had girls on the covers. A variety of doctor, construction, barista, and referee and two wand and cape and headband sparkles. Getting ready to send the box for their birthdays. (The other suggestions were great but no space at their small home.)

Grandson is now 6 months old and had his first taste of solid food today. He wasn’t sure about it.
We finally installed a car seat in my car but my daughter wants me to go to the hospital for the free installation inspection. My husband and I both watched several install videos and I’m pretty confident we got it in correctly.
I sent her the link to the Nugget site. I thought it might be something we could buy them for Chanukah.

Depending what study you look at, 50-60% of all car seats are installed incorrectly. So it wouldn’t hurt to have an expert double check your work!

We don’t have a car seat but we have the base installed in my car. D and SIL have a base in each of their cars. The seat itself is wherever GD is.

My son (and his wife) and daughters (3/1) visit about once a month or so and we have recently started watching my daughters son (4 months) 3-4 hours a day. We have a mini crib, IKEA high chair, some games and toys, etc… My daughter has an extra infant swing and activity center (friends gave them when they were no longer using) that currently live in my house. I have a car seat base in my car.

I have found that our local “Buy Nothing” Facebook group is a great way to acquire and get rid of baby gear. I just love it!

On another note, have any of your grandkids had a virus recently like this? DGS, almost 3, had runny nose, cough, high fevers (103-104+) on and off for 9 days. Tested twice but negative for Covid, and flu, and doctor did not think it was RSV. It was scary as he became paler and thinner by the day. Thank goodness he is now recovering! DD got a variety of it, with sinus infection, 7 month GD spiked a high fever one night that almost sent her to ER, but besides that was only mildly ill. All were vaccinated for Covid- kids just had their first dose, DD two doses, and we all had Covid in June, so don’t think it was Covid. It was way worse!!!

What are your grand babies wearing for Halloween? Grandson will ne a puppy, and my puppy will be a pumpkin

While I haven’t discussed it with my kids, if it is up to the 3 year olds, they will go as one of the Paw Patrols. Both girls are all about Paw Patrol! Last year, my daughter made a Paddington Bear costume; a play on her name and her British father!
