Apparently elmo got a bit tired….
Our GDs love their rocking chairs from Hoohobbers that have the mesh seats and their names embroidered on the back. They have light, but sturdy, plastic frames so even the younger one can move hers around. You can find them on Etsy and possibly still on Amazon.
I ordered my grandson a Yoto from Target today. Target circle has 25% off one toy. I didn’t even know I had target circle but my daughter told me about the discount.
All 3 of my grandchildren have October or November birthdays. I just figure out what to get them for their birthdays and I have to do it all over again! Just wrapped up my Target order for the youngest for his birthday next week.
Each GD has a Tonie box. GD2 is just 2 and very happy with the lullaby character. She plays with her sister’s characters. GD1 is 5 and still asks for new ones. They listen each night at bedtime. When I put GD2 to bed, she always says “sing, GaGa, sing”.
My youngest GD turned 2 on Tues. and her sister turns 5 tomorrow, followed by their Mom whose BD is Monday. LOL.
We are going to their “fairy tea party” BD party tomorrow. As my DIL whatever, according to older GD, that means. I guess we’ll find out.
My mom collected violet stuff during her life and I have it all. I am giving the two littles little teacups and saucers from Mom’s collection their great grandma. They won’t care now of course. Maybe someday they will.
We got to see DD/SIL/grandkids this past weekend, 4 1/2 months after their big move (15+ hours drive for us); before the move they lived 1 1/2 hours away from us. The baby girl, at 5 months (yes they moved when she was 3 weeks old!) looks just like her older sister did - same hair, same sweet face, same beautiful big eyes. DD is going to send a close up face picture to me soon so I can have a similar size canvas print made (I make them up for DD, in-laws, and us). The older 3 children had not much change in appearance over those months. I saw GS1 and GD1 homework (they traveled for a wedding) - GS1 at 4K was similar to what he had at daycare/preschool (and what I remembered of GD1). GD1 now in kindergarten - wow on how advanced her abilities and the level of work. The homework was what would have been completed worksheets in class. GD1 was super eager to get to her work, and GS2 (26 months old) had some very good attention span, closely watching her do her school work - he watches and learns so much from his older siblings. Having time with GD2 and GS2 was such a blessing - they grow so fast. Loved the time with GD1 and GS1 - they are so bonded to me as I was their ‘live in nanny’ Sunday afternoon till Friday evening for 6 weeks during Covid when their daycare was closed.
We all are traveling for Thanksgiving, and will have time with them as well there. SIL told DH that we are invited for Christmas, so we will have to work out those travel plans. I told DH that Christmas is such a joyful time for the children, and we can be an extra set of hands for the parents. The older two will have a longer school break, which the younger two daycare will have shorter time off. The parents will figure out their leave time, and we can discuss at Thanksgiving. We can center around their nuclear family’s needs, and see their house (rented) and their community - they were able to rent a terrific house, only 3 years old – beat out 10 others who looked at the house during ‘open house’, as SIL was able to see the house before the open house and got everything in and approved first, and owner (who he met) said he gets the stuff in first it will be his family’s to rent.
The 26 month old is very attached to mommy - in part because mommy’s time is spread and also she is breastfeeding and attending to 5 month old (and both parents work FT career jobs). On my prior visits, I also spend extra time and attention to GS2 because as the 3rd child, the attention he gets from his parents is more limited. The older two grandkids are 14 months apart, but dad and mommy were able to give GD1 plenty of attention when GS1 was born. GD1 is charming, delightful, and draws a lot of energy and attention. DD says GS1 is gaining a lot of confidence in 4K - and he is doing things more independent, although continues to play well with GD1 and GS2. All the Gkids are doing wonderfully.
I have to be very careful on my observations and communicating in a way for DD to process and decide. GS2 was spanked by his dad - and the next day I asked DD if GD1 (who would have behaved similarly as GS2 was behaving) was spanked at that age by her dad (I know the answer would be no). Neither DH or I would have spanked GS1 (all the kids and adults were together) - the dad was talking football with DH, and GS2 was being too aggressive with GS1 (hitting with toy) - and after the dad corrected GS2 a few times decided to spank (he put the toy ‘away’ but not enough out of reach). Mom was looking at the school stuff missed on her social media and I was overseeing GD1 with homework (we were all in the living area part of hotel suite). SIL ‘explained’ to GS2 why he was being spanked, but IMHO it would have been better to put GS2 in time out after calmly talking to him in the bedroom area (there was a door separating that are, so better situation handling). GS2 was overstimulated and needed calming.
Since DD was present (although not paying attention to what GS1 and GS2 were doing), it was up to her to ask her husband what was going on before her husband spanked GS2.
What a busy little family.
I’m looking for something portable like a pack and play for my almost 3-year-old granddaughter. She’s visiting for Tday and is here for 10 days. She’s still in a crib—D and SIL are shopping for a bed. She can climb out of the crib and they think she could climb out of the pack and play. Would appreciate suggestions!
Love this for my now 5 y/o grandson. The inner piece is the size of a crib mattress and uses a crib sheet (much more room than a pack and play). The outer piece forms 4 sided bumpers. Lifetime guarantee, and after a couple of years, we had a problem. Customer service was exceptional!
Deleted. Sorry!
Just a plain folding high density futon folding mattress or inflatable air mattress should suffice. Yes, at 3 I’d expect he could climb out of a crib or any playpen; mine were regularly climbing out before they were 2, so I lowered the side of the crib to make it easier for them to get out.
I had D sleep on a folding foam pad and then a single bed mattress on the floor. A bed topper would work too.
We also have this. We got it when GD could not longer fit in the Pack 'n Play comfortably ( age 2). It wouldn’t “contain” her because there really aren’t any sides. It worked well until she was old enough to sleep in a bed.
I also have the hiccapop and both GDs sleep in it without an issue. If your GD is climbing out of the crib, there is no reason not to transition while they are visiting to this; just make sure the room is childproof.
One of the GD started sleeping in it at our home, and when the parents travel, while she was still in a crib at home. While it is the size of a crib mattress, there are low sides where a child can not roll out; but my girls love it.
We had our son sleep on a mattress on the floor…but for safety reasons, we put a baby gate in the door to that bedroom…so he wouldn’t fall down the stairs or otherwise get around at night. Essentially…his room was one big crib.
Yeah, I wouldn’t use a Pak and Play for a 3 year old as they could easily tip it over. A mattress on the floor (even a blow up on) is safe.
LOL, our three year old granddaughter slept in a pak and play on vacation.
I bought the Hiccapop (Inflatable Toddler Bed with Safety Bumpers) after checking with my D. A good friend of hers, who has a 3-year-old son uses the inflatable bed and likes it. I’m excited – kids are coming at the beginning of next week and will stay for a week. I haven’t seen my granddaughter since August (they live 950 miles away).
I bet if you pair the “bed” with fun blankets or pillowcase she will adore it!!!
So my 6 yo granddaughter was coloring with markers today and we didn’t have a brown one at the time. I asked her if we could try to use 2 colors she had to see if we could get a color close to brown (she was coloring in an ice cream cone at the time). I asked her if it might work to mix the orange and red and she immediately replied (this is almost verbatim): “No nana. Orange and red make vermillion. It’s a tertiary color”. I had to look it up to confirm she was correct! I then asked her to explain a tertiary color, and she did. Correctly
