I saw the funniest clip of a little girl trying to get Alexa to play ‘Baby Shark.’ “Awexa, pay Babby shaw.” And Awexa just wouldn’t cooperate.
My youngest GD, when around 2, was yelling from the stairs something her parents could not understand. They had her repeat it a few times before realizing she was asking Alexa to play Baby Shark; the only problem was, they didn’t own an Alexa! Seems preschool had one and she must have heard the teacher talking to it!
I had a long video chat yesterday with the grandkids, even Twin A who is usually not interested in vidochatting.
GS said, “Hi grandma!” and never once asked to see my cat. ![]()
After Twin A said hello and told me about the 3 cardinals that come to the bird feeder on their deck (Mr Handsome, Miss Pretty and their baby who just learned how to fly) , she wandered away from the phone to do her thing while I talked with her mom. Twin A began drawing with chalk on the wood patio chairs. She told her mom she made an A for [her name]. And she had. She made 2 more As on the deck posts. Later when I was still talking to kids who had moved into the house and down to the basement playroom while mom started dinner, I asked Twin A to make M for [my name]–which she did immediately. Much to her dad’s surprise. She has known her letters for a while, able to point out various letters on printed material when asked, but this was the first time she drew a letter and then announced what it was. She’s 3 1/2.
D1 has always said Twin A is “all kinds of special.”. The nanny told D1 and SIL that Twin A really needs to go the “special school” (for gifted kids) this fall.
In between the 2 sessions of ‘Twin A makes letters’, I was on the receiving and of 20 minutes of non-stop, stream-of-consciousness narrative from Little Miss Social (aka Twin B). And I do mean non-stop. She never once paused long enough to let me answer a question or insert a word in edgewise.
Both twins independently told me they missed me and asked if I was still “flying on a plane” to come live with them at the end of the summer.
Attention Hatch users. There is a recall… check your white noise machines to see if you are eligible for a replacement part.
Thanks! I just sent the article to D, who had already heard about it and returned hers.
Thanks, I sent to my three.
Car seat recommendations- we pick up one grandchild from preschool once a week and bring him to our house and home later. I have a nice Nuna Rava car seat that my daughter got at the Nordstrom sale several years ago. We keep that usually installed in my car. We now have a few more grandkids and could have occasion to need another seat. Also we put it in my husband’s car as he drove another grandchild this week. We are thinking we would like one in each car so we don’t have to think about what car we are in on pick up days.
I don’t want to spend the price of another Nuna. (It will be on sale at Nordstrom soon but still more than I want to spend)Any less expensive seats that CCers like? looking for something easy to install.
Thanks
D bought a Graco Extend2fit car seat for my car at Target. It’s been great.
We bought Disney Baby Minnie Mouse convertible car seats; one to replace an Evenflo car seat for older GD and an additional one for younger GD. Ours came from Target, but I recall seeing it recently on Amazon for less than $200, and it’s made in the USA. I don’t remember who manufactures it for the Disney label.
Is it easy to adjust the shoulder straps. The Nuna you can easily move the height of the straps depending on the child. I don’t want something that needs re- threading doe each child. In any week I could have three different grandchildren in my car.
I’m going to bite the bullet and get the Nuna on sale since it looks like we might be helping with the littlest grandchild transportation. Another bonus of that car seat is that it is light grey not black like many others. Black can get too hot to touch quickly!
The Nuna is a great car seat. My son-in-law is going to get one for their 9 month old for his car. They have the same one for the 2 1/2 year old. My daughter has the Evenflo green revolving seat.
I just ordered the Graco from Amazon. They have it on sale for $139.00.
Do you know if this seat is FAA approved? If no, that would be a deal breaker here.
Amazon says the manufacturer is called “Dorel Juvenile Group-CA.” I’m shocked it is made in the US! ![]()
Here is an article on travel. What Car Seats Are FAA-Approved? » Safe in the Seat
My son uses a Doona for travel, my older daughter has the inexpensive Cosco Scenera that they use on the plane. Their everyday seats are heavy and bulky for travel.
Thanks! Good article. FAs do check car seats for that FAA sticker. Nuna looks better and better. They have a Nuna but that model is not FAA-approved, so whatever I buy has to be.
Our Little Miss Mess has outgrown every basket-style car seat. She would have outgrown Doona several months ago! Tall little girl. I bought her a Little Tikes basketball hoop which she tested last weekend. She had a blast placing balls into the net. ![]()
For those looking for a revolver style seat my other daughter got the Chicco. They love it and said it’s easy to install. I don’t know if any of the revolving seats are FAA approved.
I think they will travel with the Doona this summer and it will be the last time using it as he is getting longer.
You need to be ready to take her to Hawaii.
When I went to babysit my son’s kids for a few day, there was another grandmother at daycare pickup with a Doona and had no clue how to work it. The teacher asked if I did; I did not! Grandma called her daughter, who knew right away why she was called; I assume due to the time!
Warning to all, make sure you can operate everything for the little ones! So much has changed.
