The Grandparent Thread

We already did that earlier in the spring! We even took her parents.

If any of you or your kids are looking for a very sturdy yet lightweight baby stroller that can fly domestically in the overhead baggage compartments, here is a great one! And the bundle is on sale at Nordstrom.

An adapter (sold separately) allows using the stroller with Nuna Pipa and similar car seat baskets until the child can sit in the stroller.

Bluey has been the favorite here for the past few months, and I’ve bought various Bluey figures plus the house for older GD. Yesterday, her surprise was the figures of two of Bluey’s friends/classmates. She immediately played school with them, and it was pretty clear that she was acting out her feelings about starting kindergarten. She made one be anxious and fearful about going to school for the first time, then had others (Bluey, Bingo, Chilli, and Nana) reassure her in various ways. We love listening when she plays like that and can sometimes indirectly address concerns later.

Also, one of Bandit’s (the dad) lines is, “The thing is, I do this to myself,” when he’s initiated or agreed to a game with the girls. H has said that while playing with GD and it cracks her up.

OMG I think I’m realizing I can’t afford grandchildren. I can’t believe how much all the baby stuff costs these days.

Glad I never deleted membership in my old neighborhood’'s list serve; I just got a Bob jogging stroller in great shape for #3 grandbaby (and his mom) for $50.

I just got this for D1’s second baby

We’ve been away for 3 weeks in the UK but we’ve been able to do video chats with our GS. He is only 11 months but it feels like there is a real intentionality to his babbling. He finds it hilarious when pass the phone and say “here is grandma, here is papa.”

Nice.

For anyone intending to do heavy international travel like our kids did, I highly recommend looking at Bugaboo Butterfly. I believe it is also on sale as a bundle. Kids considered Babyzen YoYo as the other alternative that can fly in the cabin (their absolute requirement), and picked the Butterfly. A bit more $$, but built like a tank and can be folded/unfolded with one hand! The stroller survived their 6-month long South American “crusade.”

I bought a few sound-making toys during the recent Prime Day Sale to keep the grands occupied when they visit while the adults eat. This stuff can be super annoying, and the parents do not want them at their places, so we keep a few because kids love them! Even so, one SIL says he has been catching himself whistling “welcome to the learning farm…” many times while cleaning the kitchen etc.

My kids are now 28 and 30, but one of the best pieces of equipment I ever got when they were young was a stroller where the younger could be in the normal part, and the back had a place where the older could sit. It was well used.

I have the walker that plays “welcome to the learning farm, we have lots to show you”. Got it free on my Buy Nothing group. GD has really outgrown it, but she likes the music.

LOL, that is the one!! I got it for the littlest one because she was on the verge of walking, but she skipped supported walking altogether and just went from bear walks to running. Still likes that thing and can play with it for whopping 10 minutes. Her cousins who are waaay beyond learn to walk stage seem to like it, too.

3-1/2 year old GD loves to play the songs on that walker. I’ve tried relocating it several times, but she always asks for it. She likes to have her baby doll play with it!

GS (21 months) really thinks he’s the 3rd twin of his older sisters. Mom was painting the girls’ finger and toe nails the other night while they were watching a movie and GS insisted mommy paint his nails too. So now he has sparkly pink fingers and toes. He proudly showed them off to me when we video chatted the other day.

He’s also been pooping in the potty regularly for the last 2 weeks. He’s been much more interested in using the potty at a younger age than his sisters ever were. I guess he’s got to keep up with his sisters who are completely out of diapers even at night. Also this little guy is complete chocolate fiend and will do almost anything for a couple of M&Ms.

Watching the littlest one over the weekend while her parents celebrate their anniversary in a lake cabin somewhere not too far from here. We went to the park, chased the kitties around the house, played with the annoying sound making toys, warmed up a bottle of milk in the microwave… hope Little Miss Mess got tired enough and has a good sleep tonight. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

DD1 and I were so pleased that GS2 was interested in potty earlier than GS1. Certainly GD2 will be interested in regular potty activity when the time comes (she just turned 1 in June).

Their summer has been going well. It will be an adjustment with the start of school August 12th (TX) for the older two to be ready earlier and have breakfast before leaving the house earlier too. Right now, they have less to be ready before leaving the house, and the older 3 kids have a breakfast bar enroute as they all get breakfast at their summer program (same place as younger two’s daycare). They definitely have to be strict on bedtime, and mom/dad have more to get ready as well once school starts. DD1 is able to start work 1/2 hour earlier in the summer as she can get the kids all dropped off in time for her to get to work earlier; was able to stop by public library weekly for older two to check out books too. Will have to slide back into her school season work hours but GD1 and GS1 will have library books from their school library.

So fun to see what everyone is doing with their grands. Wish ours were closer. They are near each other but far from us. We do FaceTime and play on the app caribu frequently (the older 2 do this). Was so fun being with the youngest gs in Hawaii in June. Miss him!

One week from today all three will be together for the first time!

GD is going to stay over next weekend while her parents are putting her big kid bed together. She is moving out of her crib. It’s going to her baby sister in September.
GD already got her weekend planned. “ So…we are going to take a bus, and we are going to the toy store. I am going to get treats. Like… lollipop, crackers, ice cream. Ok?”
