The Grandparent Thread

Our little kid was crushed. Little Miss Mess entered her “daddy phase.” Just around his big business trip! She was questioning if she failed as a mom :joy: until I reassured her that was normal for kids to go through this.

Super fun day. D and SiL both had to work but daycare was closed so it was a Camp Grandparent day. We left our house at 7AM and got back at 7:30PM. Long day but a total blast. Funniest part was post nap, he woke up and just started jabbering away like had a ton to say.

Cutest part was during a walk in a local part, he said “Hiya” to every person that passed us. He also walked the furthest I’ve ever seen him walk (probably the equivalent of 2-3 city block)

Little Miss Mess has hand foot and mouth disease. Ugh! Her poor parents. Neither of us can babysit because we have stuff going on at work… so they are on their own.

I mentioned upthread about the Bike “Bus” the grands ride to school on Fridays. This past Friday I got to join in–so much fun! I usually keep my bike down the shore but brought it up for the ride (and I usually don’t ride any hills, so I came over a few days earlier just to try out the route to make sure I could do it, lol, and found I could).

Really chilly morning–I had three layers under the reflective t-shirt I wore. So many kids riding! We met the “bus” at a waiting stop with a few other families, and when it came by, we joined scores of kids and their grownups. Biggest challenge was negotiating space in the pack without colliding with a five year old, lol.

Anyway, super glad I had the experience, probably one and done, but a great time with D and her family!

I had the privilege of volunteering at school today during the noon hour. It was really fun to watch GS and GD interact with their classmates while eating lunch. Thankfully, they are not too cool to give Nana a hug. I opened a lot of milk cartons. My favorite question of the day? Whose mom are you? :joy:

D1 needed my help this weekend with GD1 and GD2. GD1 had a cold and I tried very hard to not get too close and washed my hands constantly, but unfortunately I still got the bug. I don’t feel horrible (yet). I am pumping a lot of echinacea in me because I am leaving on a trip to Asia with my mom. It is a must go trip. Last thing I need is to have a head cold on a 15 hour flight.

Take Zinc, comes in 50 mg dose, take daily with symptoms of a cold/sore throat. Immune System Health. A MD friend starts taking Zinc as soon as she is either expose to or starts feeling symptoms coming on. She could cite the medical journal research on it. Label says to consult MD before use if you are taking medications/have medical condition (I would ask a Pharmacist).

I had the 2 1/2 year old today for 4 hours. We made muffins and I took out a few “old” toys to see if he was ready. Don’t break the ice was a big hit. Also took out Ravensburger 4 First games. He could play 2 of them but the real hit was him hiding the dice from me. He hid it 90% of the time under the same pillow. He thought it was so funny.

We watched 2yo GD last evening while D and SIL went out to dinner for their anniversary. We were traveling for almost 2 weeks and just got back and we missed her. She was so much fun! “Cooked” and “made coffee” for us in her kitchen. She is learning letters at daycare so she is very interested in her letter puzzle. She ate a nice dinner, helped clean up her toys, put her dirty clothes in the basket and let me read, sing and cuddle before she went to sleep.
It was lovely.

Going up to sit with my 4 y.o. GD. She is…well, you all know how it is…amazing. Depending on how late they are out, I may stay over.

Last night DW and I were planning to go to out favorite local beer garden for dinner but we ended up going down to my D’s house for family dinner. My GS was super chatty and we had a blast. His daycare teacher said he is the chattiest one in the class.

Little kid sent us a video of Little Miss Mess washing a frying pan. She looked so engrossed in the process.

The children doing chores is good to start from the get-go; cleaning up their toys is an excellent start. DD1 (expecting baby #5) has the older two GD1 and GS1 putting dirty clothes in their own small plastic bin and carry them to the laundry room when DD1/SIL is doing laundry. Parents put their clean clothes in these same bins and the kids are to put the clean clothes away. GS2 in time will learn this as will GD2.

On college football team playing time, the kids have to have their chores done in order to watch the game (like cleaning up the play room).

I always had my own kids help pick up toys, etc. from the time they were small. At that age they think its fun to help. As they got older, they did more chores. I always told people it was because I’m lazy :joy:

Some small person put a marker in the toaster. SIL, unaware there was a marker in the appliance, turned it on to toast some bagels for breakfast. Plastic melted onto the heating coils and now the toaster is completely ruined.

No one has 'fessed up to the act, but we have 3 suspects.

It’s good thing that Grandma has a toaster they can use.

I’m glad there wasn’t a fire or a lot of toxic smoke.

I started a fire in a toaster when I was a kid. My parents weren’t home so I ran to get my brother who was still asleep. He aired out the kitchen and didn’t tell them what happened, so the next time my mother tried to use it the toaster simply didn’t work. Huh, wonder why? :innocent: (Brother saved me from a beating by mom.)

My D and SIL brought my five week old grandson out to meet his great-grandparents this weekend. Four generations together. We are blessed.

Oops, when I was a kid we had an unwritten sibling rule. The rule was if any parent asked about any offense the answer was “I don’t know did it”.
Yesterday we went out for an early dinner to celebrate a birthday. I gave several suggestions to celebrate at my house but the birthday boy wanted to go out. We sat outside 6 adults and 3 high chairs. I left a big tip.
@happy1 that is special. My grandchildren are also blessed to have one set of great grandparents still living.

My parents got to meet several of the great grands but are no longer with us. They were in their 90s when they passed.
