The Grandparent Thread

I like that mat. I think that’s what I’m going to order. It’s very muted which seems to fit in with her (lack of) color scheme

My granddaughter makes quite a mess. Kid led feeding is messier than I remember with my own children

OMG… baby led feeding. So. Much. Mess!!! My younger SIL is a neat freak, and he regretted going with that flow. Too late!

I have seen great benefits of self feeding. Babies eat what they want (no power struggle), they learn how to chew and swallow (they’ll spit up what they can’t swallow), and most importantly that parents could eat their meals while the baby is eating by him/herself. It’s not that messy if the food is not puréed. The only messy food I have seen is oatmeal.
GD1 is 7 months old and I have seen her eating a chicken drumstick, grilled broccoli, peppers, cauliflowers. She sucks on them rather than actual biting and chewing. Notice the full plastic suit.

Such a cutie!

I ended up ordering the mat. I ordered a fan for the stroller and a nursing pillow. The pillow is in a soft rose color. I think that’s good for a shower. From 3 of us.

I just couldn’t with the beige everything.

Great gifts! To heck with beige. Our kids just buy everything bright blue and yellow. I throw in a few pink objects once in a while.

My kids fed themselves. I didn’t puree things and they were fine with picking things up or using kids utensils. S had great fine motor and at 6 months could pick up individual grains of puffed rice and eat them.

The parents wanted to be gender neutral when it comes to dressing, but this whole ensemble was from PoPo. I got her the skirt from FAO Schwartz and she has been wearing it every where. GD1 loves me for it and the parents hate me for it. :j

I just realized I should have shipped the mat to my niece instead of me. Maybe I’ll send one to her and keep the other for my future grandchildren. Or return it :joy:

I must have ordered it too long ago to cancel and reorder. Usually I can cancel Nordstrom if I realize in time

Right now my GD ( will be 3 in July) is insisting on wearing dresses, loves twirly skirts, tulle and the color pink. She wants her nails painted like mommy . D was exactly like this at that age. She ( D ) still loves all things girly and is a smart, strong feminist.

Nothing wrong with gender neutral, but people like what they like!

Both of my girls are very girlie and they are also very strong. GD1 loves twirlie dresses now, but she also likes her hiking boots and pants to go biking with her dad. It’s good our kids can be multi faceted.

Can you call them and ask if the shipping address can be changed?

My D always loved blue and hated pink. It’s fine—she also loves lace, velvet, some girly things and some non girly things. She does what suits her.

I checked, unfortunately no changes.

There’s isn’t enough time for the mat to come and then decide if I want to haul it to the shower or ship another to her.

I’ll figure this out tomorrow

Both girls here were into Disney princesses… still love Disney and are hardcore feminists.

That’s a bummer. I’m sure you will figure it out tomorrow.

My go-to for baby gift is a handmade flannel quilt. Every baby gets a unique one. I’m mailing this one out this week to D1’s med school roomie who just had a little girl

and will be mailing another out another to D2’s BFF in HS and med school who is due next week. (I’m waiting to hear if she had a boy or girl so I can pick an appropriate quilt. Friend & husband decided not to find out the gender ahead of delivery. I thought about making a neutral colored quilt, but gray & beige seems so drab.)

I’ve gifted over a dozen quilts in the last 5 years. To friends of D1 and D2, to grandkids of my friends, one to D1’s charge nurse (who was going thru a divorce while she pregnant). D2’s residency mentor. D1 tells me her nocturnalist colleague and 3 of her nurses are all expecting babies before August. Guess I need to unpack the sewing machine and get busy.

One of the things D1 used constantly was a Baby Brezza It’s an instant formula mixer with settings for different brands of formula. We used it constantly when feeding twins. D2 has inherited it she will use it when her daughter is born in August. . (D2 can’t breastfeed because she had a double mastectomy. No breasts.) So nice to get up, barely awake in the middle of the night with two fussy, hungry babies and have two perfectly mixed and perfect temperature bottles in under a minute.

D1 also had two Snoos. Twins, remember. Parents either love Snoo or hate it. You don’t need to buy (because they are expensive), you can rent one to try it out. For us, it was great because with twins, you have to work hard to keep both babies on the same schedule or you’ll never get any sleep. One twin was a very poor sleeper so any extra time the Snoo bought us was priceless.

I keep a stash of dress up clothes for GD. She loves dressing up like a princess or a ballerina. She also loves playing super heroes and rescuing us from danger. She crawls through mud, jumps in puddles … and enjoys glitter & sparkles.

D also loved her Snoo. Terribly expensive but she subsequently lent it out to 3 of her friends after GD grew out of it ( the timing worked perfectly!). She will use it again for Baby 2 ( due in August).

BTW, I’m glad people like my quilt. I have a whole gallery of pictures of the quilts I’ve made for babies. I’ll be happy to post more.

This is the quilt I’m making for D2’s baby girl. It has dancing kitty cats in the borders, Top is pieced. Now I need to quilt and bind it.
