The Grandparent Thread

Be sure to wash your hands as often as possible, bring wipes and hand sanitizer - Lego place, lots of kids/germs. Sometimes people are contagious before they even know they are sick. Also be very careful touching your face/around your eyes. Every time you use a tissue, wash your hands.

A friend (in her 60’s) responded so badly with Influenza A (she lost 7 lbs. in 4 days, and she is a person that has no extra body fat), that she had just enough energy to get to the doctor’s office - and he sent her by ambulance to the hospital. She is resting at home now. She does have a medical condition that has her health compromised.

You can wear a well-fitting breathable mask too if you want a little extra protection from airborne germs.

Re posting pix of GKs on social media – we are expressly forbidden. Both S and DIL are psychologists, and they are aware of how innocent photos can be edited and turned into sexually explicit pix. Also, both of the adults deal with Bad Guys who are in prison or might be going to prison, and they don’t want anything identifiable on the internet that a Bad Guy might be able to find and exploit. Even the day care where GS goes knows not to post any photos of him on line.

It used to bother me, since of couse the kids are so damn cute, but I’ve accepted it. Their kids, their rules.

We are also in the “no grandchildren on social media” club. We don’t ever even mention them! I think if someone was really hunting, they could figure out that we have grandkids, because I am a frequent contributor and recipient of the Buy Nothing Facebook group. ANd why would I need snow boots, size 2, if I am a 65-year-old woman!!!?

D1 and SIL also don’t want any pictures of GD on social media. Everyone in the family has an Aura frame and D1 and SIL put lots of pictures of GD on there. In addition we all have an app on our phones called Family Album where they post photos and videos of GD that we can all see and comment. D1 and SIL have only invited close family to this app. We can also download the pictures or add our own pictures.

Since this is a grandparent thread and it seems that many have an aura frame.

My bil bought an aura frame for his mom, my mil. He put pictures of his kids and his grandchildren on the aura. We can’t put pictures of us or our granddaughter on her frame since we can’t access the WiFi network.

My mil’s WiFi password is lost and right now no one can access it. The next time we visit we are thinking that she can get rid of her internet since no one is using it. She does nothing on internet, just got her an iPhone with unlimited data so I don’t see why she needs internet.

Is there a way to put pictures on the aura picture frame without internet? Does anyone know if we can set up a way to do it from the phone. Maybe a hotspot?

I guess I should investigate this but wondered if anyone has experience with this.

Your BIL is the Aura “account owner” if he set it up. Ask him to add your email to the account. You can then create your account access & upload photos from anywhere. We have three emails associated with my MIL’s account - D, H & me. We can all add photos at any time. (P.S. I believe she needs internet for her Aura frame to work. We lose ours when the internet goes out.)

He told us to text him photos and he would put them on the aura. He hasn’t offered to share any information with us.

He told my husband that he can’t because the internet isn’t working.

So only his side of the family is on the aura.

I know I’m being salty but this is how it always works with this side of the family. They do things with their side and flake out so that only they are represented. I’m tired of it. But unable apparently to change it. Sigh

Now I’m venting. I know people think the aura is great. My mil has no idea how to do anything technical. My bil only does half and then its as if we are left out. I know it’s a long standing issue that only affects me.

Like Kelsmom posted, all they need to do is to send you an invite to post, once you accepted then you could post pictures to that account. Both of my daughters can upload their pictures to my Aura account.

Except they never did and never will. That’s my problem and only mine

I didn’t know there was an owner that I have to ask permission to post onto my mil’s frame.

We are watching the “crazy redheads” (boys 3.5 and 1.5) this weekend. My daughter and her husband are at a wedding. We watch the baby once or twice a week but together they are a lot. But with DH’s help it is going well. I slept with them in the guest room (crib, pull-out couch plus double bed). It went well but the white noise machine they use kept waking me up.

I am wondering if there is another work around? Could you get her a 2nd frame and put your families pictures on it?

I have a small Aura frame on my work desk, and a large one in the living room.

My daughter got her MIL an Aura frame for Christmas. Daughter had loaded about 100 pictures on it. MIL loaded another 400 or so immediately, while sitting at daughter’s house, all from her phone. Another son in SC at the time but who lives in FL added another 100 or so before we finished dinner.

I think it was all done by email access.

My mil is paying $85 a month for internet and the only thing in her house that would be connected to WiFi is the aura frame. It also sounds like the aura frame will not work if there’s no internet.

We’ve recommended that she drop her internet because she’s not using it. The next time we are in town we will go with her to spectrum and try to figure this out

Seems crazy to me to spend $85 a month for internet on a picture frame that cost $140?

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We sent pictures to be put on the frame but were told that the frame is not currently connected. It’s still showing pictures so maybe it is but my bil says he can’t load new pictures.

It’s not my problem except that I am probably going to have to figure out all of her technology stuff for something I don’t really care if she has or not since none of my stuff is on the frame.

I have internet/wifi through Tmobile. It is the same price as a phone line, so about $30-40 month depending on the plan. If she has a phone and a line for internet, I think she can get it for about $60 on a senior plan. With my t-mobile plan, I get a lot of streaming services for free (now have to pay $3 for netflix) so I don’t have cable (an antenna for local stations).

Check it out.

If the frame is not connected to a wifi, it will continue to show pictures it has cached ( not all pictures that were loaded). The permanent storage of all pictures are on the Aura cloud and that that’s we are allowed to uploade unlimited number of pictures (at least for now). If your MIL frame is not connected to a wifi then it is not possible to load new pictures. It should be very easy to fix.
My 88 yr old mom only has internet without cable or phone service. She needs it for her computer, iPad and YouTube TV. She has spectrum. I think she pays $45.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I got the information I need and I don’t want to go too far off topic.

Quick comment about my rainbow plate above–

The grandkids absolutely hated the Rice Krispie treats but devoured all the fruits and veggies like they were a plague of locusts..

I had a whole, untouched 9 inch sq pan of treats left so D1 took them in to work to share with her night nurses. They loved them and raved how they were the best Rice Krispie treats they ever had.

The nursing staff also like the apple muffins and cupcakes I bake for them. I now have an open invitation to bake for them anytime I feel like it. I enjoy baking. It so rewarding to have an appreciative audience. (Also on self-serving note, if you even need to go to the hospital, you always want the nursing staff to be on your side. )
