It’s gratifying with the little munchkins love fresh fruit & veggies, especially when they prefer it over baked sweets!
I don’t post photos on social media. My one daughter might be okay with it but the others don’t post or rarely post pictures of the kids. My one daughter would love if I posted pictures of her other love, her horse.
My husband bought me an Aura frame and I absolutely love it. My grandsons love watching it when they come over. They love seeing funny photos of themselves.
One grandson is a great eater who eats no sweets or “kid” foods. Due to his allergies his parents have been selective in what they offer him and he has never developed a taste for sugary foods. My almost 4 year old grandchild loves sweets. The parents limit sugary foods but he’s always asking for something sweet. His younger sibling is better. My other grandchild is really picky and has a very limited range of foods she will eat. She will eat fruit but at 3 refuses all vegetables.
GD2 loves bananas. She is 15 months old and could eat 2 at one setting. When I am cutting it up she’ll look into the peel to make sure I wasn’t holding back on her. When we were on vacation, someone left a banana on a beach chair, she went a beeline for it.
DS2 decided his first food would be my banana I was holding - he was about four months old. After a huge bite he was grinning and when I asked the pediatrician, she said, “it’s early, but obviously it was fine.” I was proud to have taught GS to peel clementines at our last visit.
“plague of locusts” ha ha! Randomly reminded me of when DH took one of our boys to a party and described the drop-off to me as something out of the Nature Channel because DS got totally surrounded/absorbed by a mass of people and disappeared into the house like ants carrying off a treat.
I love bananas but my daughter doesn’t like them at all, and never did. A lot of baby food (in jars) has bananas mixed with other fruit, and she wouldn’t touch them. She wasn’t a big fan of baby food anyway (only liked level 1, and only a few flavors, mostly yellow things like apricots). She liked her food solid, in chunks, like cheese, ham, elbow macaroni. Texture was an issue.
Congrats on your banana eaters. Wish I had one.
I went to help out with the GDs because D1 is away on a business trip. When we were getting the girls ready to go out for lunch, my SIL said, “I am going to pull a Dad trick. I am going to put GD2’s dress clothes over her PJs, that way when we come back for her nap she will already be in her PJs. In my days we usex wear our PJs for few days.” I said, “Their mother never did.” Both of us laughed about it and I let it go.
When we got to the restaurant, I said that I thought GD2 had pooped. SIL said that he didn’t think there were wipes in the bag. Luckily GD2 didn’t actually poop.
I think that’s the difference between mom and dad.
We had a really fun day. SIL and I also got a chance to catch up,
Fun dinner with GS at our neighborhood Mexican place. All adults all ordered margaritas and when the waiter asked Robbie what he wanted to drink he said “margarita”.
He also orders his own food there too “cheese quesadilla and rice”.
He also doesn’t want a booster seat any more and tonight he chose to sit between DW and I which was very fun
My S refused to eat certain foods, and it turns out that his body knew best. As an adult, he found out that he’s not a picky eater … he is allergic to a number of fruits. He is very intentional now about eating other foods for nutrition, but it was tough to get him to eat properly as a kid because so many healthy foods bothered him.
Feeding the 9-month-old baby food, one of the items she loved was the banana baby food - I didn’t really look at the labeling, but it was in a two pack. DD1 would say give her some baby food. She typically would eat about 3/4th of the container. She also will eat from some of the pouches (put the food on a baby spoon). She is breast fed and breast milk in bottles at daycare; she sometimes will take 2 or 3 bottles at daycare in addition to the other food they feed her. At 9 months, she is the ‘smallest’ of the five children at this stage of development - she is just getting out of 6-month clothes.
When at DD1/SIL, the older three (ages 7, 6 and 4) each wanted to sit at meals next to grandpa (in part because they don’t see him often, and they like doing various things together with him). The older three also have 3 green cups and 1 blue cup, and the older three also each want the blue cup - so we rotate it by day. Messy meals they have painter yellow aprons which they agree to use.
My son-in-law told my daughter that their just turned 3 year old has an expensive pouch habit. She eats fruit pouches from Costco which aren’t badly priced. Her real habit is wanting a Serenity kids pink pouch each night before bed. She is such a picky eater that they have continued the vegetable pouch.
My daughter in law and son gave us a photo shoot with their child. I’m not a huge fan of having my picture taken but we will do it later this month.
I noticed pricing in grocery story for individual items….yes have to purchase from places like Costco.
With 5 children, the older children once in a while will get a pouch, but more times a cheese stick, tangerine, apple, or banana as a snack. I brought a few other snacks like Benton’s Graham Crackers with Cinnamon from Aldi’s (they have no Aldi’s in San Antonio) to tide them over on the days DH and I were home with the kids all day while the parents were at work.
Both GDs started solid around 6 months. They were given food that didn’t have choking hazard, but they were not mashed up food. I would cut up banana, strawberries into bite size and they would pick up/eat what they wanted. They get kid’s yogurt in a pouch, but otherwise all on a plate.
GD1 is getting to be a picky eater, but D1 thinks that she is just tired of their cooking. ![]()
Big grands were pouch babies but somehow got weaned from them.
Little Miss Mess got her nickname because she insisted on using a spoon and feeding herself.
D and SIL did baby-led weaning for both kids. All self-feeding. So yeah, the mess was pretty impressive!
We did baby-led weaning and self-feeding. I have to say, both kids have always been VERY neat eaters. Even today, S is very much into tidiness. Maybe it’s a matter of fine motor skills? S had such fine motor skills, he could pick up individual grains if puffed rice one by one and pop them into his mouth at 6 months. It amazed his pediatrician.
I don’t use social media, but text pictures of my GS and GD to relatives and friends.
My grandkids eat a lot of fruit, but not many vegetables. Their choices change, but they eat a lot of strawberries, bananas, raspberries, and grapes.
Thanks for all your kindness. GD hated the Tamiflu, but was rewarded with three Nerd Gummy Clusters after taking it. Whatever works! She is completely recovered. ![]()
So glad your GD recovered!
When Miss Mess came down with 104 fever and was taken to the ER, I learned that Tamiflu is approved for people 2 weeks old and older (!) and that newborns get a prescription right away because flu can be deadly in that population. She had RSV… so no meds other than Tylenol etc.
