I have a guest room with a double bed and a Koala pullout couch. The koala lies on the floor (no frame) and is pretty comfortable. However when my granddaughters (5&7) were here last week we chose to sleep in my king sized bed and sent DH to the guest room. My grandsons (2 &4) are spending the night tonight and I will sleep in the guest room on the bed the 4 your old will sleep on the Koala and the two year old will sleep in crib (I got a Babyletto mini crib before my first GD was born 7 years ago and with 5 grandkids in 5 years it has gotten a lot of use).
We have a pack and play that was used by GD and now by her little brother.
When GD sleeps over ( she is turning 4 next month) we sleep in the “ magic bed” in the guest room. It’s a Murphy bed ( thus the “ magic”) queen size and low to the floor.
At vacation bible school this week, the music leader let the kids strum her guitar. GS told her, “I don’t have a guitar, yet.”
He sang himself to sleep one night this week singing one of the welcoming songs– it was pretty cute.
GD1 sings Golden. BTW, I don’t think she sings well (not in tune), but I love listening to her.
My GD sings all the time. She makes up songs, sings songs she learned at school, belts out Taylor Swift & KPop Demon Hunters songs … her favorite place to sing is on a swing. It makes me smile, because she definitely takes after her mama.
Sounds a lot like GD! She also loves to dance.
Oh, I love it when the kids just express themselves this way and aren’t concerned about how they look or sound. I wish we were that way as adults.
Just got home from seeing Toy Story 5 with D & her family. It was GS’s first movie (he’ll be 3 the first week in September) and he did pretty well. The movie was sweet and I enjoyed it, but we had 30 minutes of absolutely horrible previews for childrens’ movies that I wouldn’t see if you paid me. I usually love to see previews. We stayed for the extra scene during the credits, but we left before the second extra scene at the very end - oh, well…..
D1 chatted with the music leader, who is a mom of 4 ranging in age from 10 to 6 months, about the correct instrument. It turns out she has an extra ukulele that she is going to pass on to my GS. The ukulele is a great starter instrument for kids because it requires less pressure to play. So on 7/12 GS will get his own instrument.
I am a Nana!!
DiL’s water broke at 7am, baby BOY delivered at 12:34. They texted me (oy) at about 2:30, photo at 3. He’s got all his fingers and toes and parents learned their first lesson “we thought we had like another week at least” — she was due July 11.
Congratulations. Enjoy. It’s great to be a grandparent. Glad to hear the baby is well and healthy.
I go on vacation with D1’s family on vacation to Portugal tomorrow night. Very much looking forward to it. We are going back to the same resort. The kids are a year older. I think they will very much enjoy the beach.
Congratulations, welcome to the club.
We have our out of town grand coming to visit on Friday for the holiday weekend. I went to Whole Foods to buy a certain pouch she eats every night for a snack before bed. Yesterday I went to the regular market to buy a box of Dinosaur nuggets, she has a very narrow selection of food that she likes.
Congratulations @greenbutton !
Enjoy that little guy!
Congratulations! Being a grandparent is amazing.
Talk about a narrow selection of foods! Our big grands eat noodles, Cheerios, certain kinds of cheese pizza, bell peppers, cucumbers, and those dinosaur nuggets. That’s it. Little Miss Mess eats all of the above plus steak, cheese, chicken, salmon, and… rice with beans. Of course they all will eat berries and ice cream! ![]()
Congratulations, fellow Nana! ![]()

Our GD will be 9 months in a week and so far she loves every food D1 and SIL have given to her. D1 says she thinks avocados are her favorite. She loves avocado toast, but will also just eat plain avocado. D1 and SIL are not fish eaters so D2 and I will be introducing GD to fish when we are all in Bermuda in a few weeks.
I tried to introduce our kids to a pretty wide variety of foods and fortunately, they decided they mostly liked most foods. I know nowadays, many kids get a lot of puréed squeeze packs of food and some consequently come to prefer puréed to “natural state” finger foods, like fruits & vegetables. I’m sad about that and hope that it will pass, but who knows? Some of my younger nibblings are like this.
I was just talking to my daughter yesterday about how she planned to handle solid foods with my granddaughter and the whole picky eater syndrome. We never made special meals for either kid. They ate what I made, or they left the table hungry, which never really happened that I can recall. They had palates with a wide variety and enjoyed various kinds of fish, vegetable, fruits, etc. I remember the commotion one day when my younger one brought leftover sushi for a school lunch
Many of their childhood friends on the other hand, only ate one or two types of food (chicken nuggets, Kraft M&C, a cheeseburger with all the fixings EXCEPT the burger, to name a few). None of these instances had anything to do with tactile issues. My daughter plans to take the same approach - the kids eat what she and her husband cook - they are super healthy, clean eaters.
I’m not sure I understand the move to food being pureed and the need for it to be sucked out of a pouch. Like you, I hope that trend passes quickly.
ETA - I spend many nights in my childhood sitting in the kitchen in the dark until I ate the broccoli or cooked carrots on my plate. It was a regular standoff between my mom and I. I don’t support that approach either but at my table, if enough veggies weren’t consumed, no snacks or treats were either. I never served controversial vegetables like cooked carrots or Brussel sprouts (they were my husband’s kryptonite as a kid). I still hate cooked carrots - my family knows this and knows they will never see them on my table ![]()
