I’ve been teaching DGS6 to swim, and today, he got it! He was able to blow out his air and come up for breaths then swim more, flip over, tuck and turn, float on his back. It all clicked today! Yay!
That is so cool, anxiousmom! Swimming is so important!
My grandmother taught me to swim many years ago. I still remember it vividly. She was so patient! ![]()
GS has been an absolute tantrum machine lately. (But hey he’s 3. It’s to be expected.) OTOH, he has moment of such sweetness. Last Wednesday, I baked a peach pie, which I showed him after he got home from preschool. He gazed at it and then looked right at me said, “You made the perfect peach pie, Grandma.”
Wow, I’ve had compliments on my pies before, but I’ve never had one called perfect.
I love that pie story @WayOutWestMom .
Being 3 has definitely been interesting with GD. The temper tantrums, but then the sweetest and most loving side.
My GD had some epic tantrums around 3 or 4. She was learning to deal with emotions, and eventually she figured it out. It took some guidance in terms of what was and was not appropriate as she was learning, of course.
Threenagers make me think the Terrible Twos were unfairly named!
Been away so haven’t seen GS in about 9 days and time difference made it hard to chat–going to be tough when we travel for for 3 weeks in late July.
Today he slammed the basement door and said “that was a close one.” No one knows what inspired the comment
I had my granddaughters (5&7) for Camp Grandma last week. This is the third year for the 7 year old and the first for the 5 year old. We were very busy including a 12 hour day at Disneyland. We had a great time and I was exhausted when they left. Next month we will join their family on a trip to Maui!
This Friday was a day off for both D1 and myself, but SIL had to work. D1 was out of town and the nanny had the day off according to the contract. D1 asked me if I could go over to watch the kids so SIL could take few phone calls. I had a good day with the kids and ended up staying the night. After we got the kids to bed, I assumed SIL would watch TV or go to their room, but he sat down with me to have a glass wine and chatted with me for while. I haven’t talked with him in a while, so it was nice to catch up.
BookRoo (which I’ve mention here before) if offering 25% Andy multi month subscription through June 30th.
Use CODE: PRIME26
You can also adapt your current subscription to append the PRIME offer on to it, at its end, but you have to email them (they have no phone) - if, like me, you listened to WOWM when she first recommended them last year ![]()
This week GS has started asking to spend the night at our house, so we are researching inflatable toddler beds. We are going to wait until he gets his bed at home and then we will get something for here.
I highly recommend Hiccapop - they have a lifetime guarantee. After much use, ours had a failure and they were very responsive and prompt with the replacement.
GC 3 in now using the Hiccapop at my house! My local GD, who is on the shorter size, and just turned 7, still uses hers when they travel if there isn’t a bed available for her. It is so much easier to travel with than a pack n play!
GD is only 8 months old so they still use the pack n play with her. The Hiccapop looks perfect for when she is older.
One of my daughters used a Slumberpod toddler inflatable bed. We now keep it at our house for when our other granddaughter comes to visit. It works great and is portable. My other daughter has a similar set up that came from Amazon.
I have a large king size bed in my bedroom. When GD1 visits she sleeps on the same bed with me. She always tells us how much she likes sleeping in my bed. The problem is she likes to move around a lot when she sleeps, so I don’t generally have a good night sleep. Not sure what I am going to do when GD2 is old enough to stay over. I do have a another bedroom/study where I could put both of them.
We had a Hiccapop blow up bed, but all GD did was hop on it - but it never leaked or popped! She has a bed now in our spare bedroom (which is pink and occupied by a Barbie Dreamhouse & all the requisite Barbie stuff). When she spends the night, we blow up a mattress so that I can also sleep in the room … and we typically both end up in the bed. I don’t sleep particularly well because she kicks in her sleep, but I will put up with it because soon she won’t want me in the room. Somehow I blinked and she will start kindergarten in August … I am acutely aware of how quickly time flies.
Little Miss Mess is also a fan of “big beds.” King size seems to be just right for this 3 year old.
I’m thinking about getting a new bed for us, and our current king sized bed will become the kids’ guest room bed.
GD1 is also starting kindergarten this fall. She will still ask if she could sit on my lap.
