The Grandparent Thread

A good friend’s twin nephews started college this week in the same city DH and I attended college, and same school my friend attended. The picture of the boys - they look so young. I do have a photo of me during first term at college - happy days! How time has flown. Oldest grandchild is 10 years away from this transition.

Tongue tie makes it more difficult to sing if that is ever a consideration.

I was brushing GD2’s teeth. I said to her, “say zzzz.” Meaning bite down on your teeth so I could brush. She said, zzzz." :joy:

Little Miss Mess has finally entered her princess fairy ballerina stage! Wears her glitter tutu over her sweatpants and tee kind of outfit. Perfectly paired with her Lightning McQueen shoes.

We will see the big grands tomorrow. I wonder what kind of stuff they are into now!

GD starts kindergarten tomorrow (where did the time go?). We won’t have our regular babysitting day anymore, so we will be having sleepovers on the weekend (balanced with the other grandparents and her own family stuff). She spent the night last night, and we had a raucous dance party … we even let her play a fabulously annoying song (Mommy Farted - she laughed & laughed). At bedtime, she asked me a million excellent questions. I sure do enjoy that girl! I’m looking forward to watching her school journey.

For the long weekend, we got an AirBnB close to the Inner Harbor of Baltimore for DW, D1, GS and D2.Yesterday was the aquarium, today was the Port Discovery (aka children’s museum ) and tomorrow is the railroad museum. Its been a blast. No SIL since he is in Chicago for a planning meeting for a national conference he helps run each November.

Good news - we are closer to the move to being near the 5 grandchildren; SIL got his professional job after his time with Army was complete - so now both their careers are in the city they have lived in since 2023. Looking to get the house on the market ‘prime time’ spring 2027. Getting our kitchen counters measured Thursday for installation of quartz countertops. Baby steps every day/week to get the house ready.

Those book t-shirts look so nice. There is on pretty on with “bookworm” on it. I think it would be too large. I’d also get one for the current head of the bookclub

Happy Grandparents Day!

Spoke with DD1 yesterday and she told me the kids were going to facetime us sometime today. The grandkids are very excited to have ‘their time’ with their grandparents online – each having ‘their moment’. SIL’s parents do this often with them because their visits are very infrequent. Will have to coordinate if it will be with DH’s computer or mine

For the shower for my great nephew, someone offered my sister a banner with a book theme and she hung it on the patio. Different children’s book covers hung off the string. Someone had used it for another party (she was a teacher so lots of teacher friends) and it was very cute.

Bonus GS day last Monday-- it was easier for SiL to get to our place after landing, so D and GS came over. As they were leaving he said “grandma and pappa come to my house for dinner?” Hard to say no to that

Happy Grandparents Day! I didn’t even know… and I’m pretty sure D, SIL, GS, and GD are not aware.

The beginning of the school year has been crazy busy - school, soccer, hockey, dance, gymnastics. The kids are happy in their new classes. We are so grateful to their amazing school staff for making great efforts as the kids start a new year.

I saw a couple with a 1 1/2 YO, and I told them about Grandparent’s Day so they can reach out to their folks!

Enjoyed the video chat with DD1/grandkids - good to see them. Typically I just speak with DD1 when it is a good time for her to talk (sometimes when she is driving or cooking) - mom of 5 kids 8 and under and working FT, she doesn’t have much available time w/o multitasking. I discussed medical with DD1 Saturday, as I have a specialist appointment on Monday and did a run-down of things (DD1, like me is BSN but she is actively working and also finds out about a lot of things with research).

I watched my 5 month old granddaughter this past weekend while her parents were out of town. While I have watched her quite a bit for short periods of time, this was the first full weekend. I was by myself as DH was also out of town. I was nervous but am happy to report that it went very well! My granddaughter is perfect, of course, but having to be on alert 24/7 is exhausting! She sleeps through the night but make a lot of noises - I don’t think I slept deeply until I got home last night! I was happy to be able to do this for my D & SIL so they could have a nice weekend away.
