The Grandparent Thread

Kohl’s had some pj and other matching stuff. Amazon just set out an ad for matching stuff “in all sizes.”

Have you looked at Hanna Anderson?

They have matching PJs from Hanna Anderson and Burt’s Bees. She was thinking more along the lines of a sweatshirt like: Boutique Graphic Tees, Sweatshirts & Tanks - Pink Lily

They have the onesie size for the baby but the toddler size sweatshirt is out of stock.

Our grandchildren live five minutes away. We spend most of our time at their house. Neither child was a good napper/sleeper, so we felt the consistency of their own crib/bed was helpful. They have a great yard and play set, scooters, bikes, etc.

We have three sets of identical car seats - D’s car, SIL’s car, my car. We do drop off and pick up at preschool a couple of times a week and take the kids to parks/playgrounds quite often. Pre-pandemic, we would go to the zoo, the library, and run quick errands. We have outdoor kids concerts in our area in the summer (canceled in 2020) that we go to often. It was easy to stay distanced this year, though many families did not.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will get some items for my house. I think some version of a crib so when they come over the baby has a place to nap. Not sure if I’ll go with a pack and play or a real crib. I’ve also seen online some mini sized cribs. What brand of pack and play do you like? A stroller might also be nice so they don’t have to bring one over. I have an open space walking distance that is soft dirt and sand so I think we will look for a stroller that works on all terrains.

So recently, my six month old GS has been diagnosed with torticollis. D has been sure there was an issue for the past few months, because he really only turns his head one way if given any choice, and tends to tilt it. Overall he has trouble holding his head up when tired, and doesn’t sit up easily because of this. He was very large at birth, and was tranverse in utero, so probably caused by position. She spent a couple months researching and tracking down baby PT. He’s started PT, sometimes there, sometimes home over Zoom. Anyone else have experience of this?

Not with that but my daughter was born extremely premature, and she needed PT/OT and every other kind of T to get her ‘back to midline.’ She only looked left. She only sucked her left thumb. She’s extremely left handed (like no need for that right hand at all - I have NEVER seen her pick up a pencil or fork with her right hand).

The OT/PT helped her a lot. The OT/PTs came to our house for a while and when she was about 18 months (and had started walking) we’d go to them. We loved music therapy. She loved large motor therapy and hated small motor therapy (but her sister loved it so it was all good). She had really poor fine motor skills until her second grade teacher said “Enough of this, you will write within the lines” and she did. She now has lovely handwriting and is quite the artist. Still not good with scissors but she’s only 25 so there is still time, right?

Wow, she has come a long way! Fortunately GS’s condition is much more mild. I love the pure lefty, though, since I, my H and my S are all lefty. Not sure how D is a righty, and her D is as well. Jury’s out on the little guy still!

My daughter was a very lucky, pretty healthy girl once she got through those first 3 months (in the NICU). When we went back to a NICU reunion, the nurse checking her in notice that she was breathing on her own, walking, and not wearing glasses or hearing aids and asked (rudely, IMO) “Isn’t there anything WRONG with her?” and I replied “Well, she is left handed.”

We know we were blessed.

When one of my granddaughters was a newborn they had to learn some therapies like massage of her neck and shoulders to “loosen her up”. It was like she was stressed and tensed up. My son said he was afraid for a while that she didn’t have a proper neck. It worked immediately and well.

New granddaughter born 12:10 A.M. today, 7 pounds. No name yet. My DIL says my son keeps adding names to the list rather than eliminating them. She’s nine days early. Her older sister turns three on Thursday! And Mom’s birthday is Saturday! I told my son he will need a “November fund”.

Congratulations, @VaBluebird !!

Congratulations! Mom and dad have a little time, but they definitely want to get moving to have the birth certificate filed with the agreed on name! Excitement all around!

Congratulations on the new baby.

I can’t believe I’ve become like my Mom but one of my girls had a neck tilt. I remember having a routine of exercises we did with her. One being done while she was on her tummy to get her to turn her head the other direction. My youngest had PT for hip issues that was caused likely by being breached.

D has been doing exercises and getting a lot of good feedback from PT. Luckily this little guy loves tummy time, as opposed to his big sis who hated it.

What do your grandchildren call you?

Congratulations, @VaBluebird, on the birth of your precious granddaughter! I love the November fund idea.

@bookworm ~ I am Nana.

Grandma FirstName.

Twin A is officially walking! She has been taking a few steps between pieces of furniture (or people) for almost week now, but this morning she walked across 8 ft of empty space to get to her daddy who had just come in the door.
