The premier is Thursday December 6th st 9pm on ABC. I’m looking forward to it!
Is that like the Holiday Baking Championship on Food Network with Duff?
It is from the creators of The Great British Baking Show (Bake Off). Paul Hollywood will be back as a judge.
Reminder- the show is on to tonight at 9. Hope it’s a good season!
Thanks for posting this, @sevmom . I just set it up to record. I noticed “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is on right before, so I set it up to record as well!
They released a couple expisides of it on Netflix earlier this week— but I can’t tell if they are new or from last year? Paul is trying so hard to be nice, it almost seems to hurt.
@intparent Was it the British version you watched on Netflix? I am referring to The Great American Baking Show Holiday Edition, which premieres tonight on ABC.
Ah… you are right. So many baking shows!
Thx. I just set to record the season.
Looking forward to it! Wouldn’t mind being a taste tester.
2 hour episode!
Not too impressed with the level of baking so far. No favorites yet
Missed it last night - looks like it is set to rerun Saturday night - got it programmed to record the series for me. Good thing I caught this thread!
I agree with @bookworm. I find it a bit hard to watch, I keep expecting Brit accents from the competitors!
By the 2nd hour I was getting antsy. I can watch one hour at a time.
While I will continue to watch the show, my sister and I agree that the American version just isn’t the same! The competitors aren’t as talented (or charming) as the British have been overall. I especially miss Noel (who is that football player?).
I did like that a few of them ran over to help another baker get her pastries on the tray.
As a Brit, It was kind of strange for me watching the American version with Paul Hollywood as a judge. Particularly the coffee cake. In England if I see coffee cake in a menu or in a store it is coffee flavored cake usually with a luscious coffee icing (which led to a few disappointing moments when I first moved to the U.S. - one of the things I always rush to the store to buy when I visit my brother in England is a yummy coffee cake). I half expected it to be a surprise to the contestants with Paul expecting that sort of coffee cake. And the “little” cakes seemed huge to me - in the British version they would have been much smaller.
I was impressed that the one guy redid his choux pastry 3 times and managed to finish! And surprised that several bakers did not blind bake their pastry for the slab pie (also had no idea what a slab pie was).
I think the episode will be repeated on ABC tonight. (Saturday)
I agree that these bakers aren’t as good as the ones on the British version. It’s a little disappointing to see so many of them not execute the tasks very well.
It’s just the first episode so I think it is too soon to make a judgement. I am still going to watch because these recipes are less intimidating than the British version of the show. Those seem quite complex and more suitable for the very experienced baker.
