The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

Unfortunately, the pattern from both the 1st round this year and last year is acceptances come through calls a day or two before a big wave of rejections (delivered last year by snail mail, this year by email). It’s possible some calls will still be made Monday (although I sort of doubt it) with rejections to follow shortly thereafter. One fact that may support the-additional-calls-on-Monday theory, though, is that all of recent wave of acceptances seemed to be in the Northeast (at least in the cases where a region was identified) – so perhaps other regions still to come. Either way, rejection emails by Tuesday at the latest. A couple of other random observations… 1. estimates of numbers on the waitlist may have been significantly understated given that such a small proportion of those who identified themselves on this thread before being admitted ended up getting in; 2. three of the four who identified themselves on this thread before admission and were then ultimately admitted had very accurate inside information about the process (NYprepster, SDedalus, and dx1992) – not sure that means anything, just thought it was interesting; 3. based on someone’s claim (I forget who, but I remember thinking the info was credible) that this is not the last round, I would expect a very small cadre to survive to the extended extended waitlist for a shot at an even smaller number of places (like 5-10) – I would expect those to be resolved in last 10 days or so in June; 4. I’m not sure there is any evil intention on Harvard’s part in doing the acceptances first – I think they just want to give the good news in person, and don’t want to create unnecessary angst by mixing the acceptances and rejections. Anyway, congrats to all who got in!

Just found out im in the extended extended wait list does that mean i’m done?

@jdog34 - How did you find out that you are on the extended extended wait list?

I called them up because i dont receive emails from harvard. There is something screwy with MSN that doesn’t accept the emails. Apparently today is when they cut everybody. so if havent heard you probably aren’t in, just from the general tone of the admissions officer. My real question is if there are actual spaces left and if they are now deliberating on 25 kids for 5 places?

I haven’t heard – expecting a rejection.

no news for me as well

Z-listed! I’m not sure if I’ll take the offer or stick with Cornell, but it’s good to know they think I’m deserving of a spot!

No news here.

@WhatPencil - Did you get a call last Friday or today? thanks. no news.

@whatpencil: congratulations! what region are you from? thanks.

The phone just rang. It wasn’t Harvard. I think I’m out.

I’m surprised the emails haven’t been sent out yet…

@JenRocket- How do you know the e-mails haven’t been sent out yet?

I guess I don’t, but no one has posted that they got an email yet.

As Harvard admissions continues to move in its own inscrutable ways, I’m wondering if I should take seriously the implications of the following lines from Goethe:

"Then indecision brings its own delays,
And days are lost lamenting o’er lost days.
Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute;
What you can do, or dream you can, begin it;
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”

I’m leaving on a two week trip tomorrow so I called my admissions rep. (just called the same number she called me on Friday) and asked if there was anything I needed to sign, etc. since I would be gone. I live like a six minute walk away, and offered to come pick up my acceptance packet.

She double checked, and admissions packets are going out tomorrow. In addition she said that I should receive an official acceptance email about 5:00PM tomorrow. I’m not sure if everyone will receive emails tomorrow, or just admitted students…

Matt

so were all acceptance calls made today or will there be some tomorrow? and were extended extended WLs notified today? (the only one here called the office itself)

has any good news come to anyone in CA

@dx1992-Thank you for sharing with us in time.
to anyone else-any call today?

i don’t know what number to call. i’m from pa, around philly ish. and i suppose if anyone’s interested i’m matriculating to dartmouth.

does anybody else feel a little frustrated that they’ve made all the decisions but seem to enjoy stringing us poor little high schoolers along?

dasanilover: I’m in CA and someone at my daughter’s school was admitted today.
