My husband made some noises about DIY the two bathrooms. We can certainly do it, but… Ugh. No! I’m sick of drywall and grout (my jobs)!
I need a new fixture for my primary bath–this fixture would go above the toilet (which is set off from the rest of the room and has a door). The electrician recommended a lighting store where I could purchase a fixture. Has anyone ordered a fixture online and did it work out? I found something online that fits the specs from the electrician and I’d run it by him before I ordered. This is the fixture:
We bought all of our light fixtures online from Amazon, Lamps Plus, Seattle Lighting etc. mostly sight unseen, based on online descriptions, and all were fine, even the open box ones (to save a few $$). That said, I’m not familiar with that particular retailer, so can’t vouch for it, but if the electrician recommended it, it must be ok.
My daughter ordered her dining room chandelier from that company. She was happy with the delivery and quality of the product.
I’ve bought lots of light fixtures online and never had a problem. Note that the fixture you posted needs a low voltage dimmer; with a standard dimmer it would likely flicker at low light levels.
We have ordered many light fixtures online. Mostly from lighting companies like Lamps Plus, but also places like wayfair and overstock. We have gotten some “better” prices by doing a google image search to find different vendors to compare prices.
Bumping this up
I think we are finally getting our primary bathroom remodel ready.
Met with our contractor, went to see a job she is presently doing. Went to a tile store to pick out tile. Already have a plan and cabinets picked out with a kitchen design place.
Going to post some pictures
This is the tile we’ve picked out. Will have dark green double vanity with a linen closet. Gold fixtures. I’d like to have double mirrors, to be determined if I will decide to have ones that light up.
Here’s the bathroom our contractor was doing. I’m not thrilled with the high walls, ours will be lower.
I sent these pictures to my daughter who said she wasn’t a fan lol! Her house is very modern. My taste is traditional with a house I’m trying to bring out of the 90’s.
We are going to put radiant heating on the floors. Any ideas if the electric system is ok or should we look at pipes. Have forced air heating so would have to install a ductless water heater. Would probably be expensive so the electric would be nice if it’s not a horrible choice.
If the bid comes in and it’s in the realm of what the contractor thought, my husband says we can look into doing the kitchen also.
I really really want to do the kitchen also! ![]()
I have no idea if it’s true, but I remember someone telling me tile to the ceiling is better because mold tends to grow behind the tile if you don’t. (OR something like that. I was convinced I should tile to the ceiling).
I heard the same thing.
I meant the higher walls on the shower. I wasn’t clear. I will tile to the ceiling.
Here’s what I want. I will have a niche behind the half wall for shampoo
The contractor likes a 3/4 wall so that if someone comes in while showering no one can see all of you. I thought it made the shower dark.
Gotcha! We obviously thought about tile.
Wouldn’t want a high wall either.
I am not a fan of ceiling-high glass. If it is 3/4 high or so, a towel can be thrown on to grab immediately after showering without getting out of the shower.
Also, when a glass panel is attached on all sides, it can be more vulnerable to breaking because it cannot flex as much as glass that is not.
Two thumbs up for the hook by the shower for bathrobe and/or towels. I have that set up and love it!
We have electric radiant heat in the floor of our MB. It is about 26 years old and still works! We replaced the wall controller with a programmable digital one 7 years ago. I’m not a fan of circulating water because a leak can be a major pita to deal with and can cause a ton of damage.
ETA: resistive heat is very energy inefficient, so we don’t keep the bath floor on all the time. We programmed the thermostat so that the floor preheats before we wake up and before we go to bed.
Oh what fun! I love redoing kitchens and bathrooms!! Unfortunately one only gets to do it a small number of times over one’s lifetime.
That’s what this thread is about! We can redo our bathrooms etc. vicariously! ![]()
We are still looking for a bathtub that would fit Mr. B’s criteria. If our current one did not have the stupid jets, we would keep it.
Any good online suggestions for fixtures. Lights, fans, faucets, mirrors, shower? I’d like to get an idea of cost and what I’d like to do?
Lamps Plus has a large website to get ideas on costs. We bought through the lighting store our contractor recommended because we could use his discount and the service was fabulous (and was a local business which I like better).
Also try lumens.com. Very high end but gorgeous stuff.
