The Honor Code

How seriously is it instituted at Virginia? I’m reading the prospectus and it seems pretty emphasized. If you make one mistake, how will that hurt? Is the court that determines whether you violated the honor code fair?

UVA takes it extremely seriously… if u commit an act that violates the honor code you can be kicked outta the university. the court is fair

If you make a ‘mistake’, then you will not be found guilty since you have to have intended to commit the honor violation. In the numerous times Honor has had to go to court because some student was not happy with their verdict, the Virginia court system has repeatedly upheld the honor process as fair with the proper safeguards in place. If it’s good enough for the state courts I suppose it’s good enough for UVA, but others might disagree.

If you read into the details about the honor code, you’ll realize that’s it actually quite fair, and the punishment it provides is not too different from what other universities give…
