dbroncos23, I liked that video. That does give me some hope. Good to hear your SAT II’s are good ones.

We will all find out very soon and I cannot believe a decision like this can change the course of my life. It’s exciting.

bump to quell some more nerves.

this thread is so sick ahah im glad this was made because most of CC is pretty ridiculous about stats

well let’s see…: I got into marshall sch of business and my stats are nowhere near average marshall stats.
SAT: CR:550 M:690 Wr:570
SAT II math IIc:640
Toefl:95
gpa: 3.1 UW I dont know about weighted but im an IB student
what got me in? definately ECs, personal statement and ‘why major’ essay!
my ECs are very strong: leadership positions (VP of MUN club etc…), tons of different kinds of community service, have been playing piano 7 years and took place in 7 recitals.
In my ‘why major’ essay I talked about how much i needed to get into marshall because its a great place for me to start with. I talked about their exchange programs and their particular courses that will lead me to achive my dreams.
In PS, i was sincere and straightforward. didnt use any fancy words, it was plain me and how ‘‘I never found magical ways for (Turkish elemantary school) students to enjoy English grammar lessons with me’’. I taught a class of 7th graders basic english grammar last year and how they drove me insane.

I think I have a low SAT compared to the average… so here I go:

Major: Music Industry B.S.
SAT: 1960 - CR:630 M:690 WR:640
SAT II: mathIIC:700 Literature:660 Biology:700
No Toefl taken
We don’t have a GPA but I’m an IB student.
What got me in? Probably a combination of EC’s + Essay + Recommendation letters… My essay and EC’s had a lot to do with my major of choice so I guess that helped

I wish I’ll be able to post in this thread soon…

GPA: 4.5 W
ACT: 35
major: undeclared

I don’t quite know what it was… maybe a good essay and nice depth in terms of extracurriculars.

^…you are joking right? you should be in the thread “I’m overqualified for SC but I’m stll excited”.

ajaku3714, exactly your posting here just proves that book smarts don’t always equate to common sense. You are waaaaaaayyyyy qualified and I am certain you know that.

hahahahaha maybe there needs to be a definition of “underqualified” posted on here

What sort of GPA counts as “underqualified”? My GPA is 3.7 (I don’t know whether it’s weighted or unweighted… we only have one, we don’t have both, and I have no idea how it’s calculated)–not very good, according to my parents, although they might just have overly high expectations–and yet I was even invited to apply to TO…!

Sup all, haven’t been here in a while. Good to see all you new trojans rolling through for the fall.

AS for the title, most of you guys from a quick skim aren’t underqualified, USC is looking to pick up talented people. The stats based approach fails, trust me, friends in UCLA love going to school there but also complain that many people are focused solely on their grades and that’s it.

At sc, I notice that far less. Actors take music and IR classes because they can and want to diversify themselves, SC encourages diversity amongst your degree, etc. So you all were added because you’ll be great additions to our family. I mean from the first page I read:

A kid who studied at princeton (one of my best friends in Phi Psi did a stem cell study at harvard even though hes an engineer/neuroscience major). That’s dope man.

A girl who’s an actress. You’ll fit right in here and you guys are definitely some of the weirdest/fun people I know on campus, I know alot of actors/actresses and even live with one this year, so I can attest to that.

A kid educated abroad. Your insights will be invaluable, trust me, part of what makes SC great is the vast array of insights you’ll get from the guy you’re playing BP with or watching South Park with. You’d be shocked to find out that guy wasted in the corner of the Frat actually went to South Africa to study sociopolitical after effects of apartheid, etc.

And I mean I could keep going. One thing I don’t wanna hear from y’all is that defeatist mindset, take that ish to UCLA :p. For all the rest of you that can hack it, welcome to the greatest place on earth :).

While I am no USC fan (GO BRUINS!!), I admire hugely that USC has admitted talented students who did not do stellarly on their SATs; my daughter, who will attend elsewhere, ED, got a high SAT (2300+), and the pressure was always great to get high SATs and SAT IIs. It is nice to hear of schools that look beyond the score to admit their students. Even more admirable are schools that make the SAT optional. The school she is attending (Tufts) does admissions holistically, but, still, there is a consistent minimal SAT (I think it’s about 2190) for which they look. I await the day when SATs are no longer part of the application process for all schools–studies show zero correlation between SAT score and college performance.

Congrats!

nilufer it sounds like you have great sense of humor and personalityy

i think i am in love

^lol…I’d like to see how this unfolds

AMEN to everything that has been said!

haha flowerbomb is my friend and she is just trying to tell me she knows who I am! O.o

OMG nılufer I cannot believe you think we are friends I am so happy and honored do u wanna be my roommate in USC

USC CLASS OF 2014!!!

i love trojans

LOS ANGELES is soo hoooot

Note to all: PLEASE don’t call yourself unqualified. You show something special, be it a talent or an ec or a sport. If you are admitted you are being given a golden ticket. Make use of it.

And, there are kids with (not the above poster) “perfect” scores and grades, but they are underqualified. Perhaps their social maturation hasn’t kicked in. Perhaps all they have are grades and no interests. Admissions is not a numbers game. It is a people game.

ellebud…I could not agree with you more. I do not consider myself at all underqualified for USC. I have the drive and determination to accomplish anything in this world, including being a successful student if admitted. I may not have the extraordinary gpa or SAT’s, but as a person, I have done some extraordinary things that completely balance that out.

I will never consider myself underqualified and neither should anyone else who posts here. :)
