@MomofWildChild – yes, Nike have become problematic for many customers. One of my kids refuses to buy any more of their products, for the reasons you listed.
Nike is off my shopping list, too, for the reasons stated by MOfWC.
Yeah- it’s not about whether or not you are political. Sadly, Nike has displayed some real unethical values which amount to mistreatment of athletes, endangering athletes, and cheating.
I feel bad using Amazon to order things, as they are treating their warehouse employees deplorably. But I must not feeling bad enough.

On a related note, I think the traditional UGG boots are so ugly. Only one of my girls ever wanted a pair. She didn’t wear them for long and they sat in her closet. One day, I grabbed them to walk the dog on a freezing cold day as they are easy to slip on quickly. Wow! I was won over…however, I only wear them to walk the dogs or drive my kids to school when it’s freezing out and I’m not going out in public. They truly are super warm. My other “rated to -4 F” boots do not compare despite the claims.”
Agree they are ugly but also super warm. But even better they don’t get too warm inside. They were the ONLY boots my kids could stand to be in all day at school. A mom who was anti-ugg asked me what the girls did with their boots since our school lockers didn’t fit them. She was shocked that the girls didn’t need to change out of them. ‘But they get destroyed( which meant discolored) in the snow”. Uh huh my DD said “ who cares!”
Never thought of Uggs as ugly, though I guess the name is a hint. And mine are a sweet baby blue. What I want are that color between lavender and purple.
I noticed D1 already got herself a new pair of Uggs. At TDay, a few joked we should do a Secret Santa again (I really don’t like that, we’re a small family.) Then one suggested a $30 limit. Then we decided we might just give each other $30. Absurd, of course. But it took some pressure off.
@makemesmart – I signed up for Amazon Smile, which donates a certain percentage of your spending to an organization of your choice. I picked Planned Parenthood, and have contributed an astonishing amount… it does add up! So if you (like me) feel guilty about using Amazon, this may somewhat help.
Has anyone actually tried a weighted blanket yet? Any opinions on which ones are best?
My 2 cents about Uggs, it looks good or bad depending on the pants you wear. The ankle height air anything higher always good with leggings. My comfort wear in the winter that doesn’t make me look like a slob: Uggs with lulu yoga pants and loose top.
Uggs look horrible with jeans and Khaki. Maybe ok with really skinny jeans.
@katliamom i do the same with amazon smile. Happy to hear another shopper supporting PP.
@inthegarden I just saw that “original comfy” thing at Bed Bath & Beyond. It’s like a Snuggie and pull-over hoody mashed up.
I love my Ugg boots. I wear them at home, I wear them out much like @Nhatrang. Leggings and a tunic. I sometimes wear my mini height with skinny jeans. I own a lot of Uggs. I follow Ugg on Instagram and I think they have a great holiday campaign advertisement this year.
As for the topic of the thread- my family have not come up with any “in” gifts this year. I wish they had since I hate missing out on finding a good after thanksgiving sale.
Several folks mention wearing leggings with tunics. Are you in the northeast? If yes, what kind of leggings do you wear that don’t leave you feeling cold when you venture out? I love leggings, but also feel too cold to go out in them in the winter.
Beanies from “Love Your Melon” are popular. For college student daughters they have several college theme and Greek styles. There are cyber Monday sales as well.
Midwest here - leggings ARE for keeping warm to me! To me they are warmer than jeans. You can def get fleece lined ones or ones to guard against wind.
These are expensive thought 20% off today but gives you the idea. I will say that I have worn Athleta leggings/tights for 5-6 years and NONE of them have worn out yet.

“Sherpa” pullovers seem to be the big thing here. Very soft, puffy, fleecy.
We are in NJ, I have 2 teen daughters. Per their lists, here’s what’s in: Nike AF1, Patagonia fluffy pullovers, lululemon leggings, high-waisted baggy jeans, hydroflask bottles, AirPods.
After possibly the longest “in” run of any footwear I can remember (really nearly 20 years), it is safe to say that where we are, UGGs are definitely no longer “in”.
@katliamom
Yes, I always use amazon smile with donations go to local nonprofits (I rotate among three), and I don’t ask for one-day delivery. But still feeling guilty.
@MomofWildChild
I ordered weighted blankets but haven’t received them yet. Weighted blankets/vests have long been promoted/used by autism circles to help keep kids on the spectrum feeling grounded/secured. I haven’t realized till reading it here that they are now entering the mainstream for neurotypical people too.
I bought a weighted blanket for my daughter for her autumn birthday.

She loves it. I have spent a fortune on sheets, mattress toppers, and socks over the years. It was a great purchase.
Since someone mentioned winter hats, I bought a Pistil with an inner fleece earband for a male a couple of years ago. The fleece earband keeps the ears warm on windy days. +1 for the design.
My son works in an Amazon warehouse and is quite happy. The benefits are great and the overtime means more money for investing. Only one data point but at least one warehouse worker is not complaining about conditions. The overtime is much harder on those with children.
Same with D19, also NJ.
Strange looking pants are in also (usually high-wasted and the stranger the better)
Kiddo usually gets jeans from here:
