This is a different billionaire from Delhi and the kid is for 2016 class.

I presume a certain Bollywood actor’s D is also going Yale.
@Rew2402: I am using the McGraw Hill SAT I book, it is well planned and you should be ready by November if you used it. For the SAT II, use a ‘A chapter and a test a week’ plan.

Thanks a ton ppayas.

Guys, tell me about the selectivity of Bates college? ( LAC )
Also, what is the scene of financial aid provided there?

Thanks :)

rew2402: Check the Big Future site, it says 27%

I thought I’d chip in an on the money issue involving admissions. It is kin of obvious that if your donations to a school figure in six or seven digits, then you’d have at least so much influence to get admission to that school. Also, another way is to be coming from a family in which your parents (or one), is in an influential position. Maybe now you’ll appreciate why or how the Ambanis and Gandhis matriculate at said universities.

All that being said, you should keep in mind that the universities need these people more than they need the university. For example, Ambani’s kid doesn’t need a Yale education to help him manage his/her father’s conglomerate. Yale surely needs Ambani’s kid to later tout it is his/her alma mater.

Also, this hardly affects anyone on the board.

@tizil7 I totally agree with you about the universities needing them more than they need the university also I dont think anyone is complaining that it would affect his/her chance to any particular university.

@Tizil if you dont mind me asking, why did you choose Berkeley over Brown? I mean isnt Brown more prestigious seeing its an Ivy?

Operating from mob. so unable to provide link
A Nepali boy, as per Harvard RD, got in with SAT 1910 and no great gpa or EC just because his dad was alumni and had donate $4 million. As per his testimony, Dean of Admission himself had confirmed his admission on phone. He hired a pro to write his essay, teacher rec, & others.
My point is donating $4 Mn - $10 Mn is no big deal but quality of peer might deteriorate which I think won’t be good for ambitious people like us.
(I hope all of us are ambitious & love challenges ) :)

Soon it will be TiT #21 and page 21 ;)

Any KVPY fellow here ,would be thrilled to meet you in person @ seminar :)

guys, what do you suggest which 2 subject test should I take if I want to do Econ. major…
I know that if I choose Physics as my major I will have to take Math II and Physics but I am confused for Econ.
Woud appreciate of some one could guide me :)

Well, I don’t think there’s a subject test specifically for prospective economics majors. Also, most universities don’t accept you to a specific major. Therefore, most competitive applicants apply with the usual:
- []A Maths Subject Test (I or II)
[]A Science Subject Test (Chemistry or Physics or Biology (E or M))
However, please don’t feel limited by these options. You may also want to consider Literature, World History, French or German. If you specifically want to show some interest in economics, I would suggest you take AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics both of which are based on the CBSE curriculum of grade 12. Don’t worry much about the difficulty since none of the grade 11 CBSE economics is related to the grade 12 economics. Grade 11 is more about the Indian Model of Economics in Cities and Villages. Grade 12 is general microeconomics and macroeconomics.

ah okay, Thanks Tizil
So when do you suggest me to give AP’s ? I mean of course its gonna in 12th but any specific time? also are AP’s like SAT? Does AP exam happen during selected months of the year like SAT or I can give them any time?

Well, the course load isn’t that difficult at all. If you could manage it, I’d suggest taking it next year during May, the only time it is offered. From experience, Microeconomics is not going to take you more than 3 weeks of studying if you are very interested.

APs are only offered during the month of May each year. The Micro and Macros exams follow the similar pattern of ~45 MCQs followed by 3 free response questions (FRQs). Graphs are always important in the FRQs and the MCQs are particularly easy. The entire paper totals 90 marks out of which you need ~60% to get a 5.

Crystal31, they are done in May, are you not in Grade 11 already?

@tizil7 thanks alot for the guidence I have one last question from you which is, what all books should I go through for the econ ap tests? Or no book as such is reqd just the cbse class 12th book will be enough?

@Ppaayas yes I am in 11th grade already will be going in 12th next year march…

Sent from my U20i using CC

Well, to be honest, my IB book helped me more with the test than anything else, expect I also used another AP-centric book.

@Crystal: There is still time, for now, I had say just take SAT I and II. Give it a try a few times, for you are still in 11th. After you are done with the SATs, check back on CC for more information on the admission process.
So, just relax and enjoy High School while it lasts.

PS: If you value your sanity, don’t dare see those ivy decision threads, you will get depressed. ;)

@Mrinal : thanks for the advice, I totally agree with you . I am just fuiguring out things at the moment not panicking at all, just making sure I know everything before starting anything…

Crystal, also be sure to explore the possibility of taking the ACT instead of the SAT Reasoning Test. Paayas, so is your’s ;)

Why is there no sort of ‘Like’ option here? I am done with compiling my Home-School transcripts for the past three years, quite a task.
