The Indian Thread #21

Yup, all of them. Hindi counts as a foreign language right? Or do we need something besides Hindi since we’re from India?

I think that depends on what you list as your first language.

…So if Hindi is my first language and I already have four years of English, I don’t really need any other language?

^ Not for most of them. None, if any. As long as you’ve studied in an English medium school from 9th through 12th, then you’ll be fine.

Paayas.
I guess I have actually completed the pre-requisites!
Except for 4 year math. ( and I am applying for a engineering course!)
But then, I am taking classes from an open school.
As for 4 years in a foreign Lang- does Hindi count?
I have done French, but not under the school curriculum.

idream17, I hate it that you first made me write a whole Essay on why Yale and stuff and didnt even care to mention it that you read or comment about it.
I put so much into that post
:/

I highly doubt whether Hindi counts, check the websites of Colleges you are applying to.

Tizil ^ like, how do you report such stuff to the unis? Like if the school is
Hindi-medium or whatever?

@idream - welcome to the club of unsettled 2017ers. :P

Where do you include all the information about your school’s grading style and everything?

rew, aw, I’m so sorry! I read the whole thing and I wanted to comment on somethings but the talk just moved on to other things and I forgot I guess. I remember now, though :p

When you said Yale has a reputation for taking full pay kids from India, I was a little confused. Isn’t it need-blind? So shouldn’t it not matter at all whether you’re full pay or asking for 100% financial aid?

anvesh, haha. Been there a long time, I guess :stuck_out_tongue:
I think all that info goes into your school profile.

4 years of one foreign language is a recommendation and not a requirement.

A lot of high school districts in US require only two years for graduation.

You can’t replace Hindi for English and vice versa based on how Indian curriculum might label them, i.e., Hindi is always your first language in India.

So, in the school report, I ask the school to put the following stuff-

[ul]

[]average SAT scores
[]no of students getting a 90+
[]subject options availability (explaining that one can choose either bio or math in science for 11 and 12)
[] availability to get a transcript if
A student is applying to foreign unis
[li]school grading system
[/li]

[/ul]

Am I leaving somethng now?

I think maybe also number of students in your grade, and also the school board. (CBSE, ISC, IGCSE, IB, etc.)

Oh yes, the no of kids.
Thanks.
Anything else, guys?

Your rank!
And where in the world does the senior class of a school have kids?

second paayas.

How exactly are we suposed to send the teacher recs in guys?

North, the teachers send them in, not you. They can send it via fax, email or postal mail.

common app - they can upload. You provide an email for the teachers and that provides them with a link to upload a recommendation.

Same with counselor’s rec and other paperwork like school profile being discussed. All of this can be done online, at least with the common app schools.

Yeaaaah my query was more concerning whether by snail mail or online
So thanks guys! :)

LOL. Fine! Almost-Adults!
Also, guys, My transcript does not have the Rank? But our school does the ranking. So do I send my rank in the “general school report” which states the facts OR get it noted down in GC Reco OR send it through another paper as a note or something?

^ you don’t send anything. If your transcript does not have it, your counselor will need to say something about rank in their report.
