so seems like the thread is finally gaining some life…lets keep it going…

-tj

The thread sure gets lively at times … and yes mostly at topics lewd and strange … yet its so much fun …

Well as per application to brown is concerned, dont worry radhika, i am sure almst all the peope on this thread have applied there. Though you are for sure the getting an early advantage.

Well and CTC2 , ,no matter what benjones says for MIT , a 750* 3 = 2250 is not equal to getting a 2300+ which i feel dedserves alittle more careful testtaking. Though there is no bias, but a high scorer can always be assured of better performance .

And yes any subject where we get a 790 or 800 matters greatly too.

SM

hey dude listen I’ll join at 10:00

I have to watch the OC so I’lll come at 10

man smartmind u shouldn’t spend so much time on CC since u r going to have exams in less than a week’s time!! i think ppl who r more “free” like me, ronty, radhika etc truly have the right to visit CC at this time of the year!! evilish

yea… rite … as most of you must have figured out by now… im permanently bored…

hehe bored… the process is bugging but sure interesting … more so now as the stuff goes into its final stage of implementation…

SM

btw… watercanon… can u provide us with basic details of the 1 applicant from india who got in Brown with aid…

like SAT1 and sat2 …
Extra curricular
High school record
essay and recos
and anything special to be mentioned
amount shown as annual contribution

This info can be helpful to analyze little info …but still

SM

well i know of a guy who got into brown full schlp but he went like 2 years back…he had an awesome record all around…like a 2350 in SAT I in his first attempt (which sounds quite unbelievable!!)…he was also like a national swimmer and had a great school record…like 90% + in his exams…this is all i know…

ya… sure … that would definately be helpful… watercanon wat were your stats like?

My brother just asked me what he needs to do now… if he wants to get in a very good US university in 4 years… In US terms he is just a freshmen.

He is studying vocab at the moment, as this is his weakest point, just like me. He cannot perform a lot of EC’s, as he train 30 hours a week tennis.
He is in national selection, rank top 10 in the country.
Do you think he should try to find time doing EC’s or will the uni’s understand his tight schedule?

of course they will…its better to be master of one thing than the jack of all trades…they highly appreciate that you are following something seriously…i believe he shouldn’t think of anything else as far as ECs are concerned…and yes vocab takes time…i had this problem too as i could only devote 2 months for it…so if he has time he is better off considering books like PR’s Word Smart, which i think is an awesome way to learn vocab, rather than just mugging up the words from the word lists like i did!!..;)

btw radhika were u being sarcastic there??

thats true… they recruit athletes and sports ppl rite… he could get in even with a low SAT score… not too sure bout this… but he should check on this…

Don’t have the stats for the guy who got in with aid… However, Brown gave him 50% aid, and the other 50% aid was through some UN scholarship…

There’s also another guy who got into Brown in my year, on full aid, from Nepal… This guy’s never been outside his village before this, and couldnt even afford tickets one way to Brown… They’re paying for everything… That’s probably an exceptional case though… It also helps that hes brilliant…

My stats were 1500 SAT 1 (800 Math, 700 Eng), and sat 2 was 780 chem, 770 writing, 730 Math…

90% ICSE, and pretty decent predicted score for the IB (39/42)… Decent extras and pretty solid recommendations…
