The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

And just when I was getting started on a good fantasy novels discussion…

and what does my cousin being at Princeton have to do with the ‘Giga Soceity’

Completely agree with you about WoT. I read until Book 8 and then gave up in disgust in the middle.

By the way, have you read William Morris? If you liked LOTR, you’ll love him… he’s like the father of modern fantasy. Also, how could I forget Pullman’s His Dark Materials? That’s my number two series after LOTR.

whats this giga society.??

My cousins are in Delhi studying commerce. They might not make as much as any IITian or any enginner, but I guarantee you they’ll die happy. ;)

Ive never actually got my hands on His Dark Materials- though Ive heard great things. William Morris you say? Thanks  Ive been looking for a good new author to start reading.

Initially I thought Ashok Banker’s take on the Ramayana was pretty good, but now Im reading ‘Jay’ in its old Hindi form, and I can honestly say that his version can’t compare with the original epics.

R.A.Salvatore’s Forgotten realms books are good TP books.

EDIT: The Bartimaeus Trilogy-Very very well written. A great political commentary as well. I was actually moved by the ending.

Does anyone know how to get an international driving license in Delhi, which I can use in most US states?

My Indian license won’t be accepted in many states and I really want to avoid their rigourous driving tests…

1) US needs u to be only 16 for a driver’s license

2) U could contact the authority…its not very difficult to get one

hehe well… arent u first worried abt decisons today?? u getting any??

SM

Been meaning to read Salvatore for a long time, but he simply isn’t available at the local bookshelf.

By the way, are you also into Sci-fi? I think Asimov’s unbeatable.

Get an Indian license and then give the driving test for Intel license. Trust me it’ll be worth it. You can drive anywhere.

where do i give the driving test for Intel license?

whats the prob with CC clock… my posts getting b4 the posts already there.
?

SM

“Isaac Asimov was a man of his words”

:) Something our english teacher once told us. Asimov is to SciFi as is Tolkien to Fantasy. Unfortunately most of my scifi wanderings are restricted to star wars of which I am a fan(read:freak)

I’m not very sure about this, but I think you can apply for one here, and then you’ll have to give a driving test in the states for verifying that you can drive on the wrong side of the road.

there is sure some problem with CC…

argh, please give some useful advice…
Many states only give learner permits at 16, and full licenses at 18… I lived in NY for about 10+ years, and my father was able to use an Indian license in NY temporarily, but he had to get a NY license eventually…

I heard that a international license is accepted in most states and one can get it in Delhi?

I seriously would like to avoid US driving tests… They are very rigorous and time-consuming… And I’m sure I won’t be having loads of time in my freshman year. My mom, who also has a NY driving license however wants me to go through their grueling tests…

To give you an idea about US driving tests, most students are failed in their first test so they have to go through their training again… many students go through the training a few times before they pass… You need to learn a huge manual of rules/instructions and watch long, 8 hour movies :frowning: :(

Ermmm my posts are getting warped. It looks like Im prophesizing your questions. My answers been sent up there somewhere.

dont u mean the right side of the road:p
