The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

thank you for that humble comment :p

well i just got confirmed…

I have been admitted to Utaustin college of engineering … and slated to recieve my engineering honors program result within 1-2 days… ;)

well its good to start the day’s decisions with an acceptance and that too utaustin… hehe:)

SM

hey cool…congrats!!

Congratulations SM… i knew u’ll get somewhere awesome

Congrats Ankur!!! :)

“Much of Eragon has actually been copied from another series called Earthsea.”

Eragon and Eldest are the most plagiarized pieces of work Ive ever read. Its a complete copy of star Wars. Brom=Obi Wan
Eragon=Luke= farmboy with force powers
Murtagh=Darth Vader
The last elven rider thing in the second book=Yoda

You can guess the plot of the last book by seeing Return of the Jedi.

If you want great fantasy, read A Song of Ice and Fire, however it is very risque.

Arjun, I’m not going to say anymore on this. I really do pity you, because you may not realize it, but you are extremely naive. The most naive person I’ve ever conversed with. I wish you the best and hope that you don’t have too much of a tough time adjusting.

one more rejection :frowning: JHU

Don’t worry ronty, I’m sure you’ll eventually get into a good uni…

Who is staying up tonight for the 5pm EST results?
It seems Stanford, Berkley and Cornell has all syncronised their timings…

That translates into 3:30AM IST for us in India

well JHU rejected… huh … thhats bad…

SM

Congrats SM.

Havaldaar, you’ve absolutely hit it. There are some times I want to get my hands around Chris Paolini’s neck and start squeezing. BTW, I’ve read ASOIAF… crackingly good series, just a little to violent for my taste.

congrats SM.
Its on my list of acceptance too.( with TURING + DEAN’s)

well i will try to sleep and not stay awake…lets see how successful that turns out to be!! …and stanford decision is not coming tomorrow morning…they said March 31st 3:00 pm pacific time…so it will come day after tomorrow…

Finally someone with knowledge! ASOIAF is really violent, but soooo brilliant. Can’t wait for a dance with dragons.

The Sword of truth series is also good. You heard of that?

ASOIAF is, I think, like Martin’s actually stepped into medeival Europe (without the dragons) and is writing an unbiased account. By the way, how is A Feast For Crows? My local bookshop hasn’t got it in paperback and I can’t afford the hardcover.

Sword of Truth is by Terry Goodkind, isn’t it? I’m planning to begin it after JEE on April 9. What do you think of Wheel of Time btw?

Um, don’t want to further the argument or make it personal, but I just found many of ASP’s posts amusing…

Correct me, but the acronyms MIT and IIT both expand to “Institute of Technology” except for the first word which identifies the location. There are more engineers than scientists at both places.

You are being myopic. More companies recruit Indians because of two reasons - 1) English langauge skill is usually good, 2) Indian manpower is CHEAP. Academic skills are “good enough”, not the sole reason.

And now you said it yourself. But any ways by which you categorize it as “better”? And what does “more qualitative” mean? I assume you meant more “qualified”

Yes you are grossly mistaken, sorry.

There is a thing as “The Giga Society” consisting of people with >200 IQ. It has 7 members worldwide. What more have they done that Mensa members have not?

I’m just curious: why did he apply to MIT when he did not want to go there? Because you have to send MIT your decision about enrolling before your IIT results would come out.

To study paper and pulp engineering ?
Seriously, everyone preparing for IIT answers something like this to the question “what do you want to study at IIT?” - A1: “If I get good rank then I will get Computer Engineering. Otherwise maybe mechanical.” OR A2: “Ek baar IIT me pohauch gaye toh life ban jayegi… kya padh rahe hain usse koi matlab nahi mujhe.”

For your information, Laloo is not illiterate. He has a law degree from Patna University from a time where it was one of the leading universities in India. He was involved in student movements as a leader, and no, his degree was not awarded for bribe (in his time there wasn’t another Laloo). He is corrupt, but not illiterate.

Why are you going to Cornell???

Why did you sign the ED agreement? GO TO IIT! CHERISH YOUR DREAM! If you go to Cornell you will only, oh, learn to say things like “Will the Madam want lemon or milk with her tea.”… Biology minor? Pol.Sci.? Why on earth?!

Obviously, she has a daughter and from what I know she didn’t even apply to MIT. :p

And caste.

OK. That last bit will now spark off another 20 pages of debate. I’m off to dinner.

A feast for crows is completely missable. It focusses on minor characters. Only Sam Tarly’s bit is good, the rest is quite boring. Basically Cersei gets what se deserves and Jaime refuses to help her. Dont bother buying it.

Sword of truth is initially excellent, but gets repetitive. Wheel of Time started of brilliantly, but then the money bug hit Jordan and his books have gotten feebler and feebler. Dont bother starting with it.

The swan war trilogy is pretty good.I dont know if its available anymore. And of course, my old favourites The Belgeriad and the Mallorean.

mercurysquad,

i already mentioned why i choose Cornell in 3 posts…

heheh…good post Merc… :D

just noticed :(
