The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

gee, europe is cool!..well SM now ur a werder bremen fan…darn…

so i see you are back ASP…where have u been all this time…considering you pulled all nighters during IIT time…??

hahaha … ASP so rate ur chances for IIT success

welll… so now i think our next big topic of discussion is all LAPTOPS… hey man …ppl common you have started researching on it… so suggest cool ones to me as well and post … maybe we all end up finding the best deal…

SM

MIT Media Lab’s 100$ laptop :p

haha…is that commercially available though…

No. Not commerically available.
To get it, you will have to goto places like Egypt, Argentina, etc. which are the member countries, and pose as a financially needy boy. :p

well i was looking for a little better deal … and can pay better off to get it too:p:p maybe a little better performance and a higher end gizmo

SM

btw was it just me, or was Math a killer in the JEE…

As for Laptops…i’ll most prolly get a Presario Compaq…ive been a religious follower of Compaq ever since i got my first comp

Just buy IUB’s offer of the Dell Latitude D510. But show me their 2006 offer first, they keep changing.

Noooo :stuck_out_tongue: Compaq Presario rulzzzz…Dell Lat 510 looks bad and I think doesnt work that amazing either…

the compaq V2000z is a decent machine, the possibility of getting the 64 bit Turion processor makes it more appealing

To vamp’s previous question a couple of pages ago:
Macbook Pro:
<a href=“MacBook Pro - Apple”>MacBook Pro - Apple;
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=MacBookPro</a></p>

I’m deciding between the 17’‘(2.16GHz)/15’‘(2GHz) + 2GB RAM + 100GB HD @7200rpm. The 17’’ is definitely a much better deal.

Besides, I’ve seen UT on my friend’s ibook (32MB graphics card), and the graphics were ****in amazing. Seeing that, I can just about imagine graphics on a Macbook Pro.

And Congrats SM and ruships. So where are u gonna be heading?

well i am looking for all models lets c… ppl comment on this model…Sony VAIO FS680 … and Dell Latitude D820
Still looking … and macbook is col but i just want to get a mac now… coz i see high developments in it 1 yr down the line to get the latest gizmo…

SM

hey i heard macbook’s got no right click…is it true?

That’s one unfortunate aspect. To right click, you’ll have to hold the ctrl button. It may be a bit of a prob when playing games, especially FPSs.
But nothing u cant adapt to.

whats the idea behind not having a right-click? how does it help?

no idea .

Wait a minute - if u attach an external mouse, will the problem still be there?

.

* ~ASP : “i heard macbook’s got no right click…is it true?” *

**It’s true ! **

*~ “if u attach an external mouse, will the problem still be there?” *

**Bang! You got it right.

You can attach a USB Mouse with 2/3/4 Buttons + Scroll Wheel + Biometric Scanner and it will run smoothly on Mac OS X !

To be honest, nothing beats MAC OS X in PlugNPlay, Ease of Use, Productivity and Interface. (From Personal Experience of working on Mac OS X - Panther & Tiger versions)

Mac OS X hangs rarely, but it does so once in a while when the “Force Quit” doesn’t respond to it’s call.
Plus, less worries of Virus attacks, but sometimes this may change in the future with the recent adoption Intel X86 architecture.

The only downside may be the unavailabilty of pirated softwares, esp when in India. And maybe even some games too. But once in US, the scene will be different.

Most of the Scientists from NASA, ESA, MIT, ASU etc who have been to VSSC, ISRO had Apple Powerbook with them. Few had IBM (now Lenovo) or Dell.
Upon asking, they said that nothing can beat Apple, which in my opinion was a great praise for Apple from those who use it regularly and extensively. (Note: These statements were made when Apple was still based on IBM PowerPC architecture.)
