So this time how many people are meeting in mumbai???

arhhh…come to patna you ba*****s!! :p

oOOOO AHAHAH THIS IS SO CRAZY

THERE’S SOME ARCHITECT’S PLACE NEAR SYMBI

HIS NAME ISSSS… RAJIV BANCHHOD

I KID NOT

gandalf it’s a duke meeting… its me akash and 2 other people who r coming to duke but dont visit CC…

Rajiv Banchod…hahahahahh… woww his sister must be real embarrassed :P

LMAO!!! dude…

Yippee!!!

IUB said if i go to grad school, i will only have to pay the interest on the loan.
And I found something really shocking yesterday… saw their Grad School Plans survery for Class of '05. About 40% of the students were going straight for PhD after their bachelors! [is it possible?]… and to places like stanford, cornell, yale, oxbridge, LSE, Kings college, Max Planck Inst… what not.

OKAY… This is really important and i need help urgently. I enrolled myself into Boston University (half tution scholarship) and also into SRCC, India. I want to go to Boston and my parents did too. Now, LOTs of ppl told dad that SRCC is extremely good and i should stay back. Also he has been told that most ppl who go to the US for undergrads dont come back and they settle there. Now my parents are totally against me going to the US. And if I dont come up with a good argument today I’m of to delhi tomorrow. So, help…

thts awesome news merc :)

Also one more thing… how competent do you become ( as in the job market) in india with a bachelors degree from the US… is your position the same as a bachelors degree holder from india… i need help ASAP…

Can u send me d link to the IUB grad skool plan survey thingie? thnx…

you certainly have better job prospects i.e., you can get a job more easily than your indian counterpart (if the current situation continues) but you cant expect a big difference in the salary though i.e., an indian and yourself wont have a big difference in your salaries

by no means can you learn the same things at srcc that you can learn at BU. I know that SRCC is the best arts college in india, but staying away from your home helps a lot, believe me. Also, i think you said that you are getting the major of your choice at BU and not at SRCC. So thats another point. Also you’ll be in Massac., where the some of the smartest brains of the world live, thats a big plus point, the environment will be great!
Also one last thing, remember the regret factor, after some years, you should no rue your decision, if you have the opportunity take it!

thanx addies … i need to convince dad… and since ive been in a boarding school since i was in class five staying away from home is not a concerning factor

of course it is.

radhika, i dont think you can directly compare indian and american colleges. the course designs, outlook are polar opposites. for example, iit isnt letting me take a computer in my first year. they say it isnt needed for the coursework and the computer centre is good enough anyway(although i feel taking my computer away is like removing me from my natural environment). this wouldnt happen in the us. and so my (albeit biased) opinion on your problem is to go to BU if the financial part can be taken care of, especially since you will be getting your major of choice there.

EDIT : (my point being that the rep of indian universities seem to only vaguely correspond to ground realities. they’re all seriously skewed because of the selectivity factor as well as by people associated with them claiming their institution to be ‘excellent’ (i mean parents of present and former students, NOT the faculty))

Anokhi,

you might want to refere to this thread of another Delhi girl going to BU facing similar situation

why dont people refer to other people by their sn anymore?

addressing shash_rao by his sn :p

how do you ‘quote’?

~Adides:
"So this time how many people are meeting in mumbai???

-WHEN IS THE MEETING ? DATES?
-WHERE? VENUE?
-HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE THERE?

I may be in Bombay by the last week of July, esp. if I don’t choose to go to Bangalore or Chennai instead. Well, I think that here the choice is mine.

Send in the details through PM, Adides.

illhave to differ with you there adides…

think of it from the point of view of a company hiring - why would you want someone with a degree from AMERICA in INDIA? i mean the person who has studied in america will be used to a totally different system, whereas the indian counterpart will be used to/familiar with the system.

plus workin in india you will never be able to earn back as the same rate as compared to workin in the states due to the diff in currency (1$= Rs.45)

infact i asked the head of citibank’s pharma division the same question a few weeks back, and he told me that he’d hire an indian anyday. plus about a gazzilion people have told me that companies in india prefer engineers who have studied in INDIa as compared to america- becos here engineers go through such a rigourous training and know their subject matter SO well. (as compared to american educated engineers who are better overall at communicating and are well rounded, but in the end u want someone working for you who’s good at making engines, not quoting Plato.)

ofcourse this my opinion, but think of it rom the employers p.o.v … it just makes more sense to employ indians in indian companies.
i mean if (EDIT: WHEN) i own my own MNC id rather higher local people than strangers. Remember the HSBC ad- local knowledge is imp…
