The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

y dont we all give a list of our stats and where all we are applying and for which course!

EA at good univs only available at yale, harvard and 1 more(i am for getting) …do add if u know more … for intels it does not make much diff

reg the stats it is a gud …idea …but too early for anyone …may be starrt of sometime after October sat results … . .

Ronty stanford has SCEA. Which means that there policy is of Early Action but if you apply early to stanford then you cannot apply early anywhere else (same for Harvard,Yale)

I still stand with my opinion: applying early not smart.

Applying early…not good u end up sending a not fully developed aplication to your 1st choice school

exactly…that’s what I have been talking abt for days.

Hey people tell me if out of the $47000 per annum for Stanford University (or other need aware colleges) I tell them that I can pay like $17000 then will that improve my chances at Stanford (or other need aware place).

Actually can anyone tell me where one can put down how much they can pay when contacting need-aware colleges other than Stanford. (because Stanford has a distinct section in the application where one can write the amount of contribution they are willing to make)

for things like ur ones where net contribution is 17k i expect no advantage… a definitive advatage would be a 50% + payment…in any need aware collegs…not these …and anyways… with gud scores and application… finaid can be possible…we all know…

well a $17000 definitely gives you an advantage over other internationals (or indians in your case) who have similar stats but have much less money to offer. the need-aware uni could use the extra bucks to make more attractive offers to other really good applicants.

but if you are the kind of applicant that colleges would fight over, they’d take you whether you offer more or less… (unless of course the uni doesn’t provide intl finaid!). so in my opinion, it helps the average to above average applicants, but may not matter if the applicant is way up there.

my 2 cents… take it or leave it :D

that is ok… but believe …that the college is anyways not going to meet all ur need( need aware not needblind)…so anyways u will be left with some 7-8k …urs is only 9-10k more… May make a diff… but what… 30k is still a long way to go… and they dont consider pity comparision of comparitively small contri. for intels …if u get in with 17k contri…i wud say u will with a 10k also… so think…what is the diff

Nothing i think is average above average there … while giving your app…points u may a point more …but not a big diff. i know…

i ve got a question though … what are the forms u generally hav to fill in for fin aid and what dupporting docs do we hav to provide…giv detials guys…who know it ofcourse…and any tips and tricks here…

well, i look at this way, I’m applying to 20-22 colleges all over the world, 15 in the US

if i can’t get even one app perfect and ready by Nov 1st there is absolutely no way I can do 15 apps by Jan 1st. i can’t really (and don’t want to) recycle essays, so I’m gonna work my ass of till 1st Nov to meet the EA deadline.

I still think it makes sense cause I have like 1 and a half months to polish my app!
