The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

financial aid is the only damn problem… I wish steve jobs was my relative or even bill gates would do( I hate windows though)

hey noldo, theoncurlyfry and others who are tech geeks, you guys tried windows vista yet? early/intial impressions?

I’ve heard they’re restricting copyright infirgements a.k.a download programs and such? any news on this?

After I junk my present laptop(running XP) I will not so much so as touch another computer running Windows. It’s going to be Linux or Mac from here on.

I haven’t tried Vista – I switched to Mac OS X pretty recently, and I’m not going back to Windows. Not even if I get paid.

Yeah, Mac OS X pwns Vista. I’ve got a 13" Macbook.
Noldo, where did you get your Mac? The prices in India are really jacked up compared to the US.

I loved the Mac OS X on my cousin’s laptop, but sadly I’m still running XP.

The only major news I hav heard regarding vista is that there r many complains from game companies complaining that it is not compatible…
I hav also heard that it has some superflux properties which r highly endorsed features…

fuzzylogic – Mac prices in India are insanely high, yeah. I actually got mine from a generous relative in the US; 15" MacBook Pro. (17" is just too large for my taste, really. 15 is lovely.)

has anyone had there Penn interview, I just got a call from the interviewer and have mine tommorow.

I think there is no Upenn interview in India…or is it??..

I know 3 personally, but not the one who is taking mine. Hard luck i guess

Well Physics was v. good; bit exasperating really (more of a boring paper).
I’ve been a lifelong Windows operator; I’m thinking vaguely of trying out a Mac when I buy a laptop for college.

I didn’t apply to Penn, but a friend of mine did; he hasn’t been contacted for an interview as yet.

k_twin: practical paper, I presume? Physics practicals are pretty dull across most syllabi (alas for we who aspire to be engineers, I guess).

Physics practs, yes (I’ll be Stanley:)); you’re probably right, just the same I do wish they had an extra credit experiment or something like that, that actually tested your knowledge and thinking ability instead of just a follow the instructions mechanism. I suppose we’ll save that for college. At any rate; there’s a bit of break now, the next practical’s a few days later.

Haha, I’ve never used a mac in my life and was pondering on whether buying a macbook pro 15".

I haven’t used Vista or a Mac, but I might switch someday. I’d get better security, anyway… but I’m just so used to Windows.

Three cheers for Windows Vista!!!

dda – if you have the money and inclination, go for it. It’s a lovely machine, and I’m quite impressed by its processing power (let’s just say that I have four parallel downloads, a DVD playing, Java VM running, and three or four Firefox windows with multiple tabs open, and everything’s working very, very well indeed).

Also, graphics and monitor are splendid.

Negative point: occasionally, applications do freeze up – not on the same level as Windows-blue-screen-of-death, but annoying.

Well, this is my 400th post on TiT#15!!!..
I hav Lenovo laptop N100 Intel duo core, 1.6GHz,512 MB RAM, Windows XP Home Edition, CD-W/DVD player…
Negative Point(s):Battery lasts less than 2 hrs……

28 Posts yesterday… (And I actually went for nearly an entire day without posting) The slow down’s begun with a vengeance.
