The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

you will when we meet ;)

I suppose I’m vaguely close to being Received P myself (though RP’s a bit too posh for me!). Spent most of the first few years of my life somewhere in Bedfordshire (did live in Scotland and Wales, but not enough to gain an accent – which is a great pity, as I rather like Scottish accents!), then went to an English school in the Middle East, and then moved to India, so I’ve picked up bits and pieces of odd accents along the way. And I flatter myself that I do a very good Manchester in a pinch.

Lakshya – I can imagine that, actually.

Thanks a lot everyone :)

Now all that’s left is the ISC and waiting for the other decisions.

The only Manchester I’ve ever heard is on Frasier (Which I suspect wasn’t very accurate :))

I suppose mine comes down to excessive watching of the Beeb as a naive, wide-eyed child. (Not that I ever was a naive wide-eyed child, but something like that… :D) Strangely though I’ve always attributed it when I’ve seriously thought about it before (a grand total of 0 times) to too much Wodehouse or Yes Minister.

Not that too much Wodehouse was in any way a bad thing though…

Oh and yes, If we’re talking about parts of India we’re from (launches into explanation that he’s said a hundred time before :P)

I’m from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, Punjab (via Chandigarh) and Haryana (via Chandigarh)…

Now the one thing that I’m happy for is that my accent doesn’t resemble that. Now that would be unimaginable. :)

Why do you all talk so much when I’m not on?

I’m so totally from Andhra, I don’t have anything in my heritage apart from Andhraiteism.

And my accent… isn’t too good, but isn’t too bad either. I get nervous when I’m being judged (or I think I’m being judged) and my accent goes to the dogs :<.

Shrivats – yeah, that would be a pretty unimaginable accent. Yikes. And I maintain that there is no such thing as ‘too much Wodehouse’ or ‘too much Yes Minister’ (Bernard FTW).

Kriti – it could be argued that you’re never on when everyone else is? (Although you probably have an excuse. Eek, Boards.)

I always preferred PM to M though :); (can’t really say why…)

PM was good too; have you read the novelisation versions? They’re great fun.

Oh yes; we have an immensely dog-eared copy at home :D

The great tragedy is that there were so few episodes of the programme. And of course he does give up in the end doesn’t he (Hacker)?

Wow, you’re actually talking about books which I’ve read. And yes, I love them too. I have them!

I forgot to say this previous post, congrats Arit!

It’s not so much the Boards as my parents. My house is full of relatives now, including a two year old (cousin) niece who loves going “Kriti didiiiiiii!”, so it’s not like I’m doing a lot of studying.

Thanks a lot :)

That is so great. Kids are awesome. :D

My copies of Yes Minister & PM would be dog-eared if they weren’t hardbound (!), so I fully agree with all sentiments in favour.

Kriti – yay for the inclusiveness of this particular discusson?

I’m just going to pretend I don’t dislike kids. (Well, that isn’t entirely true. I can bear them. But the idiotic ones get on my nerves, and the fiendishly smart ones make me feel old.)

hey Abhi’s ECs are wonderful, he seems to be a real social crusader

i never realised the importance of my ECs until I decided to study abroad  I never paid any importance to em!!! but dunno how I have a decent number of EC, though not very special they are…

@ Kriti: Ah you’ve just reminded me of this obscure book I’ve read… (Well you haven’t, but let’s just pretend you have, shall we? :))

When’s your next exam CBSEers? (Ours is Monday, Math)

I just finished ‘The Ladies of Grace Adieu’ by Susanna Clarke, so I could always go on about that…:D

Ours is Tuesday. Chemistry. Hence why I’m drowning my sorrows in mock-18th-century fantasy and moping about. (Of course I will fail!)

@Noldo: E tu Brute? (A chances thread. :D)

You know, I think I’ll post a chances thread (so far I’ve resisted the temptation) under a new ID after I get my college results, should be entertaining… :)
