Oh, for heaven’s sake. I thought the average intelligence of this thread was slightly above this. Please, bas007, bas.

omg- this is what the board exams can do to a sane man…

oh guys I have been talking to my dad and he has agreed to pay 15 lakhs for the 1st year. Is it easy to get finance once you get there? I mean internships and stuff…

hey spacepirate, I thought u were on my side

You’ll have to show them guaranteed support for 4 years. If you don’t apply for aid as a freshman then you aren’t eligible for it anytime in the next 4 years[That’s what most of the colleges say]
If you are from a respactable college, say Cornell, then you could get 3000$ p/m as an Intern in India.
Personally i don’t think college like Purdue, WPI or arizona are worth 15 lakhs.

Warning: I’ll get rid of the “Junior” thing pretty soon

abhi agreed about Purude and arizona but is WPI really that bad? which colleges would you suggest for aerospace? yeah I will definitely apply for aid!

so i mean after i enroll for a year do i get to have need based aid too?

Purdue’s aerospace is 4th in the nation. Many people claim that if you arent “weeded out” in the first two years, then Purdue’s engg degree is like a gold magnet for attracting job offers.

is university of florida, Virginia tech worth it?

dda but man what abt aid, my dad can pay for the first year, what abt the year after those?

First things first,
YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL AID AT MOST COLLEGES IN THE UNITED STATES IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE ANY AID WHEN YOU ARE ACCEPTED.
Second,
Use the College Board College search engine to learn about the exact financial aid details of each college (http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp).
Check under the International Student section.
If it says “not reported”, in most cases it means that the college either does not give aid to international students or gives a negligible amount.
Third,
At the undergraduate level, if you go to the U.S. with an F-1 VISA, then you CANNOT work more than 20 hours a week and CANNOT work outside the campus. Thus, International students usually get jobs that pay around $3000 a year.
DON’T EVEN THINK OF GOING TO COLLEGE AND THEN WORKING TO PAY YOUR FEES, or paying for the first year and then earning the rest yourself.
That, in 99.99% of the cases, is impossible.

DAMN man!! college board says BU provides need-based aids!!! while the site says it doesnt!!!

BU as in Boston University?
Yes, they provide aid, my senior in high school was accepted with around 50% scholarship. (don’t know whether it was merit or need)
The College Board aid list includes both merit and need-based aid.

UT@ Austin!!!

Financial Aid

* International students eligible for need-based aid

Non-resident aliens must submit the following financial aid forms:

* Foreign Student Certification of Finances

one more thing is that both graduate and UG mix?

@ ajay –
Why are you posting that?

If you want to show max aid, then just show Mt. Holyoke:-

Number of enrolled international undergraduates received aid: 300

Total amount awarded : $11,512,973

No that is only for Undergraduate. (a sum total of the 4 years)

Well, JHU is awesome indeed…but it givs aid to merely to about 10 int’ls…
FIT is good, but again the question of fin. aid arises…Same is d case with BU…
UT Austin does giv aid but not enough…

for BU

Financial Aid

* International students eligible for need-based aid

Non-resident aliens must submit the following financial aid forms:

* Foreign Student Certification of Finances

NOW THIS IS COOL!!! I didnt knew many of them do provide!!!

ajayc: that data includes all UGs in d college…
bas007: TiT#16 is far away…if v report then it is not the thread which will b closed…the effect will b on d individual…
