School Housing: What’s it like, is it guaranteed? If not, what are the local alternatives.

[guaranteed, i know all this anyway]

Definitely about Greek Life. A college dominated by a drinking phenomenon isn’t a good thing.

[no greek life]

Number of students in intro classes.

[good one!]

Number of TA taught classes

[none, that’s why i’m going to an only undergrad college]

General Student-faculty interaction, restricted to office hours/not restricted

[good one, thanks]

Transport, how prevalent are student owned cars, how necessary are they…
Do students remain restricted to the campus or is it a college town type atmosphere?

I actually know the answers to ninety percent of those questions (too much Googling? :D) myself, actually, but I suppose I shall figure out something. (Of course, if the caller’s a bloke, he will probably be intimidated by my being female and Britishly-accented. At least, such is my experience with nerdy guys in general. :D)

Ah I’m looking forward to some awkward second guesses at an English/Slightly Brit accent from a very Indian person. Should be fun…

Of course the problem is that, being the people we are, we already know the answers to most of the questions, google and the rest. It actually becomes quite weird at times (especially in interviews) when you’ve got to ask them about what you already know, just to y’know, ask something. :)

I’ve always admired the British accent. My Harvard interviewer had one and I was thoroughly in awe of him.

Do you have student led project teams of some sort?

What I meant by student led project teams was something like the Stanford DARPA team. For instance, my sister at Cornell is involved in a team which is going to be launching a satellite into space. They have a faculty advisor but the majority of the work is done by students themselves.

And in the middle of this lovely discussion, I bid thee adieu, for I’m writing to a deadline (long story, ask me later!), and must needs get 2000-odd words done before tomorrow. (This is like a repeat of the run-up to my Stanford app – midnight on 14 December and I still had the long essay to write!)

& at Shrivats – yobbery amuses me. Personally I love Scot accents, am amused by Northern ones, and have an RP one.

NU: No, hasn’t. We’ve all been chasing after nothing here.

@ Kriti: You know, when you actually go there. What if you’re a bit early/late. What if the hotels are full. That sort of stuff. (I’m hyper-cautious, it’s a failing. :))
