The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

@Fry (really, do you mind my calling you that?): I’m sure you’ll get the result you want in that decision! If I’m not mistaken, are you the Oberlin fan?

@Noldo: So how exactly is our GPA calculated?

I’ll be getting a domain too, but I probably couldn’t host TiT’s page on my dad’s business website, I think :<. So, thanks, I’ll be glad to take you up on the offer, do I have everyone’s approval?

Congrats on 7800, Noldo.

Didn’t someone say something about the activity lowering because decisions are out…?

tetrisfan – I haven’t the foggiest idea, honestly. Depends on the university, I expect.

Kriti – yep, I probably couldn’t use my dad’s either. Once I successfully badger my parents into getting me a domain, I’ll let you know.

I don’t mind you calling me Fry, though everyone calls me Kriti, it’s my name :). Don’t call me Curly, though!

Yes, I’m the Oberlin fan, which reminds me, I GOT MY ACCEPTANCE PACKET TODAY LAWL!

I don’t know how they calculate GPA. I don’t even know if they do, maybe they just compare applicants from the previous years and this year. You know, like “xyz got 83%, we accepted him, abc got 72%, we accepted him as well, but he couldn’t cope, so we should accept people who have nearly that percentage with caution.”

Maybe. This is all total total speculation.

Also, colleges can’t look at your 12th marks while deciding on your acceptance, unless you’re applying after a gap year.

I should probably go study informatics, my Boards aren’t over yet.

I dont think they calculate GPA. They have special international admissions fficers who have knolwedge of curriculums used around the world.

@tetris: Don’t worry about GPA calculations. The Adcoms understand the rigours of the ISC/ICSE syllabus as do they that of the CBSE and they are considerate. However, if you’re expecting a 4.00 GPA with a 60% average like some people who pop into this board, you’re sorely mistaken. ;)

@Noldo and Kriti: Great Idea, sort of, enshrining ourselves in immortality and the like? ;):)

(With a Google Bombing campaign, we could even push that website right to the top. :D)

@Noldo: Well then, guess I just have to keep my socks pulled up then. But then, suppose I do (or rather done)…let’s just say not-so-well in a test, but I’ve still topped the class, won’t look so bad will it?

@Kriti (feels a bit more natural calling someone by their name…I’ve never called someone Fry you know:)?): Are you applying to Oberlin for music?

Activity lowering? With people like us around? Never! :D

@Tetris: No it doesn’t look that bad. Class rank will out. :)

Yeah. We shall be forever famous and so very cool and all the little Indian applicants will want our autographs and we will be more awesome than the Beatles, even.

(I call Ringo!)

tetrisfan – Class rank will help a lot. I had lousy grades, but still managed in at Caltech thanks to being second in my class.

@Shrivats: No, no, I’m not a 60% student! 80% would be more like it, with 90% in biology, geography and maths, 80% in pretty much everything else except Hindi.

@inshallah: That’s comforting!

:D You can take him… Me, I’ll just be Shrivats. (Sort of, create a newfound luster to the name and the like, ya? :))

@Tetris: Ah then don’t worry. It’s fine. (You’re in 11th grade now?)

Yes, autographs, sounds nice.

No, I’ve applied to and gotten accepted to Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences for a probable double major in Computer Science and Creative Writing.

Of course, I could go totally off track and end up majoring in Drama and Film Studies, and minoring in Philosophy. Yay liberal arts.

I call Lennon!

Tetris - Where are you looking at applying? Whats your intended major? Have you done your SATs?

So, you’ll write the sequel to: Do Androids Dream…? ;)

Seriously though, I’ll look out for a best-selling publication in the years to come… :D

I got into UCLA with 50s in social science in 10th school exams (I got a 91 in the boards, my teacher sucked.) I got an average of 85 - 89%. You should be fine. Class rank does determine a lot.

Shrivats – I once proposed that we re-name our school’s four houses to ‘Paul’, ‘John’, ‘George’, and ‘Ringo’. Just sayin’.

tetrisfan – aaand to follow up on Kriti, I got into Caltech with an average significantly lower than hers. Don’t worry. :D

I’m gonna be Kriti and do it the Shrivats way, I’ll be a celebrity, not step into someone else’s shoes.

Anyway, gotta go study informatics, bye.

@everyone: I’m a tenth-grader (only!), but hey, I feel it’s good to prepare early! Will be doing my ICSE next March. My intended major wuold be somewhere along the lines of biology/molecular biology.

Where am I looking at applyng? Haven’t gone that far in depth yet, but know that I’d love to be at either an Ivy or a top LAC.

I plan to take my SATs in the 11th grade.
