The Indian Thread (TiT) #18

thanks for your contribution.

Interesting. How is this different from regular CS? i.e., how many courses you have to do that focus solely on game design/development? I heard that game design/develop is very similar to film making.

Yea, I’m an IB student. Cornell’s policy on IB credits is similar to their policy on AP, they’ll allow you to skip introductory/beginner courses in certain areas and contribute toward your credits and standing, depending upon the particular college you attend at Cornell and major. However, they do require that something like 60? credits are taken on campus towards your major (I might be wrong on that number…)

I could have gone to any of my state schools, UF, FSU, UCF, etc. they give 30-45 credits for the IB diploma and virtually full tuition, however… even if Cornell doesn’t give me that many credits, the experience will definitely be worth it.

Umm, I worked two jobs, at my moms store and at another store. I took dual enrollment classes (Sociology and World Religions), I took online AP classes, and I did this summer program thing with the Council for Educational Change in D.C. with Georgetown, Howard (yuck.), and Shook Hardy & Bacon (one of the largest and most influential law firms in D.C.). Advice for a junior? I guess… as words of wisdom, lol, work hard fearlessly. There will be things you miss out on, and sacrifices you make, yet choose the battles of indulgence you wish to fight and make educated decisions about those that are not worth it. Hard work does pay off, dreams can become realities, just don’t give up. Oh! and be honest and realistic with yourself and others. Disillusion is not a fun friend to have =</p>

wisdom86, did u attend YESS? r indians eligible?

no, I was rejected from YESS (ha, I got a NO from a program called YESS -___-)

I don’t think Indians are eligible, well, not directly. The program is geared at URM, and we’re kind of… over represented. In addition, they reject you if you’re over qualified; when I applied, I’d already taken AP Physics B, a year of IB Physics, IB Calc, etc. and the programs geared at beginners; it offers a number of introductory courses, etc. I know a number of people whom were rejected… more than likely, for being over qualified and not needing the program as much as those whom were selected.

wisdom86, those r indeed words of wisdom. Thanks for the tips. You kept yourself busy last summer. Congrats on ur success.
